Horsham College had three teams qualify to compete at the Year 7 & 8 Greater Western Region Basketball Championships in Ballarat on Thursday 7th November, with each team playing two pools games in an attempt to qualify for finals.
Year 7 girls played two very entertaining and high scoring games against Monivae and Mercy College’s. The girls were not able to win either of these games but shot more than 50 points in both and only losing by less than 10 in both games.
Well done girls your teamwork was amazing and the fun you all had on the court was enjoyable to watch also having to play with only six on the team meant you all had to play much more court time than your opponent’s, who had a bigger bench great effort by everyone on the team.
The Year 8 girls lost their first game against Monivae College in a close one, they then took on Mercy College winning this easily by over 20 points. These results then qualified them to take on Emmanuel College in play off for 3rd and came away with an easy win, well done girls who also had to play with only six on the team, you were very close to making the 1st v 2nd final, great effort by all.
The Year 8 boys cruised through both their pool matches against Trinity College Colac and Mercy College winning them both by comfortable margins, this then qualified them for a final against Emmanuel College to see who would go on to Melbourne to compete at State Level. Unfortunately, the boys came up against a very good opponent, keeping up with them at half time with only a few points in it but as the game went on the Emmanuel side were able to take control of the game. Congratulations to all the boys on this team you played some great basketball and should all be very proud of what you achieved. A big thanks to Mr Dorward and Mr Bruce for coaching the teams and Faith McKenzie, Henry W and Eli F for coming along to referee our matches. A great day was had by all staff and students.
