Grade 5/6 Boys Basketball Team - State Champions!
Our Grade 5/6 Boys Basketball team has been named State Champions for 2024! The team competed at the SSV Basketball Finals at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna. After going undefeated in pool play, they came up against a very talented team in the grand final.
After a seesawing grand final, the boys scored the go-ahead basket with only 8 seconds to go. The final score was 42 - 41. Congratulations to the team and supportive parents. This is an absolutely fantastic achievement and we could not be any prouder of the team. Go TPPS!
Grade 5/6 Girls Football Team - Runners Up in State Final!
On Wednesday, our girls' 9v9 football team participated in the State Finals at La Trobe Sports Centre. The team started strong, securing big wins to earn a place in the Grand Final. Despite a hard-fought effort, they lost to Marymede Catholic College in the final. Reaching this stage is a remarkable achievement, especially in a new competition format, and the players should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
Best of luck to the six teams competing in the State Hoop Time Finals next week!
Prep Camp
What an incredible night we had at Prep Camp! Our Prep students were filled with excitement as they explored the fun-filled activities.
The evening began with lots of energy as students bounced and slam-dunked on the basketball inflatable, showing off their skills and enjoying every moment. Over on the AFL inflatable, they practiced their footy moves, taking impressive marks and having a ball. A highlight for many was the friendly soccer matches played with their peers, where teamwork and laughter filled the air.
In the hall, the fun continued with a silent disco. Students danced to a variety of tunes, showing off their moves and enjoying the unique experience of grooving to their own playlists. It was heartwarming to see their smiles and the joy they shared with their friends.
Prep Camp was a huge success, filled with laughter, excitement, and unforgettable memories. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the night so special for our Prep students. It truly was a great night had by all!
Preparation for School Leadership in 2025
Over the last few weeks, all Grade 5 students have been involved in the school leadership selection process. As part of this, we have been fortunate to have Adam White present the ‘True Colour’ school leadership workshop.
Adam is a professional high-performance sport media commentator and has drawn on his experience as well as involving former and current sporting stars. We were very fortunate to have Will Sutherland, the captain of the Melbourne Renegades cricket team, and Daniel Harford, ex-AFL footballer and AFLW coach, talk to the students about their experiences with success and setbacks over their careers and give advice to the students on how they have become significant leadership figures in their own worlds.
This program has been an opportunity to celebrate confidence, develop resilience and discuss the importance of good leadership. The was a big emphasis on all students being leaders, not only those who wear a badge, and how we can all be role models, through positive behaviours and actions.
We are so proud of our Grade 5 students and this leadership preparation will place them in great stead to take on school leadership responsibilities in 2025.
The School of Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition
This Semester a number of our talented Maths students entered The School of Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition run by The University of Melbourne.
The competition provides high ability school-aged students across Victoria with the opportunity to understand what it means to conduct mathematical research in order to solve high level mathematical problems. The children have the option to work individually or in teams to explore a complex mathematical questions and create a detailed report. These tasks are extremely complex and challenging, only projects that achieve the high level of criteria set can be entered.
Every Grade 5 or 6 student who entered this year should be very proud of the work that they have achieved. In previous years, Templestowe Park Primary School have achieved one or two Merits. We are very proud to say that this year 50% of the students achieved a Merit. This is outstanding work for such a high level of competition!
Congratulations all certificate recipients. You have done a fabulous job.
