Whole School Activities

Lower Division

It has been a very busy time for Lower Division, with lots of activities and learning.

We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in Mathematics, and exploring what new object is created when we add depth to a shape.

As part of this exploration, we made cubes from paper templates of different patterns and described them using appropriate language such as faces, edges and vertices.

Lower Division were also lucky enought to be invited to send a letter to Santa at the special Christmas Post Office organised by Uralla Shire Council. Our students enjoyed the bus ride there and back, and also had a great time writing and sending their letters to Santa.

Upper Division

Mega Band Day

Nine of our orchestra students travelled to NECOM on Friday to particpate in the Mega Band Day organised to give outreach schools an opportunity to participate in a larger group, with 76 students from schools across the area in attendance. There were rehearsals in the morning prior to a concert where four songs were performed before an appreciative audience. Our students performed wonderfully and were great representatives for the school.

Stage 3 Podcasting

Our tech-savvy Stage 3 crew mastered the "Maker Space" at the Armidale Library today as they brought their podcasting scripts to life! Students have worked through the writing cycle to create a research-informed and entertaining, podcast which today was published in a purpose-built, recording studio style space. We look forward to students sharing their work once their final podcast brand imaging is ready and attached to their audio!

Science Experiment

Upper Division students explored fair testing in Science last week. We looked at controlled, independent and dependant variables, and how to explore a hypothesis. We looked at how temperature (cold water or hot water) impacted on the time it took for an effervescent tablet to dissolve. We discussed the movement of the molecules and how much quicker the tablet was able to fully dissolve in the warmer water.

Sarah Rose Author Talk

Our students enjoyed a livestream event last week with Paralympian bronze medallist, and book author, Sarah Rose. Sarah shared her life experiences with us, and how she has learnt to embrace her dwarfism and succeed on the international swimming stage! Sarah read her book to our students which shares strong messages of acceptance and empowerment for people with disability. Sarah also told us about her podcast "A Very Rosie Podcast", which our Stage 3 students were particularly inspired by. We were proud of our students who shared about their own individuality and those who asked respectful questions for Sarah to respond to.

We have our very own signed school copy of "ABC Disability" which our students can explore and enjoy. Thank you to the Swilks family for gifting us this resource and organising such a worthwhile experience for our students.
