Year 1/2 in Term 4
This term in Integrated Studies we are learning about Sustainability. Sustainability looks at ways that we can look after the Earth and environment to ensure it is looked after for us and the future. To be sustainable we need to think about what we need and what we want. Needs are what our bodies need to survive and wants are things that are nice to have. Last week we read the book The Lorax. We had a special visitor drop off some Truffula Seeds which we have planted and are so excited to see them grow! We are going to track their growth throughout the term and graph their progress. We learnt that plants need water and sunlight to survive so we are experimenting with what will happen to a seed with no water or sunlight. We are enjoying watching our seedlings grow!
Diwali
Last week, students in 1/2 enjoyed learning about Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights! We watched videos, listened to music and created our own Diwali Lanterns.
Writing
In Writing we have been writing expositions! Students have been immersed in the structure and taught how to use persuasive devices to convince the reader to agree with their topic. Each day, students have been given a topic where they have planned using the Lucas Big Idea Poster, and written arguments to support their topic. Some of the topics they have written about are Summer VS Winter, Dogs Vs Cats and whether Mr Young should sell Zooper Doopers every day!
