CSSA Zone Basketball

The start of Term 3 was one full of sport and excitement. Monday morning at 6:30am 4 teams representing the College travelled to Dubbo to compete in the CSSA Zone basketball competition. The winning team in each division will have the opportunity to represent Far West in the state competition later this term.

Our U15 Girls team competed against Dubbo and in a great show of dominance our Girls came out victorious by 50points. The U15 boys maintained the rage. In their 3 games they were often challenged but responded well. Winning all 3 games off the back of some clutch 3s.

The Open Girls participated in 2 games, easily slicing their way through opposition defence and keeping opposing teams to low scores. The team demonstrated their years of experience and game time together.

Then came the Open Boys. In their 3 games they played as a solid unit that cheered on one another’s success. The boys easily won their first 2 games, but then came Dubbo Christian School. This was the last match of the day and by far the most competitive and hard fought game of the day. Dubbo got out to an early lead that was slowly clawed back, with the score being level at half time with a clutch 3 pointer from Alexander Yongai right on the siren. After half time, the boys maintained their composure as they went point for point with Dubbo. In a game of momentum it was the boys from Wagga who kept their heads level and made wise choices at the right times. The Open Boys were able to win by 5, scoring the last 3 shots of the game.

Congratulations to all teams progressing to state competition later this term.

CSSA Zone Athletics

There was not a lot of time for rest as many students backed up basketball with athletics the next day. We were joined in Dubbo by another coach and many others who travelled with families to compete at CSSA Zone Athletics. Having so many students attend was a blessing with a great team atmosphere being created. Many students achieved personal bests with 13 Primary and 31 Secondary students qualifying for State Athletics later this term.

A special congratulations to Carneh Yongai for coming out Age Champion in the Opens category. Congratulations also to Carneh for breaking the Discus record and Freya Howard for breaking the 800m and 400m records. Well done ladies! And well done to all those who represented and served the College so well.
