Updates from Miss Maree

Dear Families

This week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) is our school's review known as the School Improvement Tool where three reviewers will spend three days in the school speaking to all staff, the students in their classrooms and parents (before and after school drop off and pick up) to gather input on what the school is doing well and where improvements can be made. As you all know the past year or so has been about

  1. Improving the 'look/feel' of the school and making it more welcoming and visible to the community.
  2. Building an expert team/staff who have the wellbeing and learning of our students at the forefront of everything they do.
  3. Building relationships with staff, students, families and wider community.

We are very pleased with how these goals have been developing - as there is always continual room for improvement. This year our focus has turned to building a learning culture - with staff and students and then moving to parents/families.

Staff have been working together to look at the way we plan to ensure all children's needs are being met. Students have been involved in developing  goals to become more responsible for their learning and how they can improve moving forwards. Our next stage is to have more learning opportunities for families to help their children learn best, eg. information/practical nights on helping your child read etc. Stay tuned!

Our first Little Joey's Outdoor Playgroup was a great success. Many parents and toddlers braved the cold to come and play, meet new friends, share a story and craft and have fun. A huge thank you to Macey for her amazing work in making this a success. Our next palygroup is this  Thursday from 9.15 to 10.30. All are welcome!

Last Thursday also saw our first Stepping Stones transition for the year with many of our 2025 Foundation students attending. It was wonderful to see so many faces. Miss Maddy, Gen and Sam spent the time getting to know the students and families while making slime. Our next transition is Thursday 22nd August with a Book Week theme.

Last Thursday we celebrated our Feast Day of Mary Mackillop with St Mary's Rushworth. Fr Ruell celebrated mass for us and then the students moved into four groups and participated in a variety of activities followed by a shared lunch. It's a wonderful opportunity to share the day with St Mary's.

Book Week is fast approaching - a day parents and students either love or loathe! Our school parade will take place on Thursday 22nd August. The theme is Reading is Magic. Students can come dressed up as any character from a book - this is not meant to be a headache for anyone. If you are in need of ideas please come and ask - almost anything can become a character!

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Take care and stay safe,

Maree
