In Term 3, students will develop their Literacy skills by:

  • Deepening understanding of persuasive writing through investigating emotive language and persuasive techniques.
  • Building reading fluency & expression.
  • Reading to understand descriptive and some content-specific words.
  • Further developing comprehension skills.
  • Thinking beyond the text.
  • Making predictions.
  • Making links between texts and ourselves and the wider world.
  • Using digital technologies to create, edit and publish written pieces of work.
  • Increasing fluency in touch-typing. 
  • Revising and consolidating knowledge of phonics and exploring spelling conventions.
  • Using Nessy to consolidate various reading fluency and comprehension skills and strategies they have learned about in class. 

Students will also attend an interactive virtual workshop with renowned childrens’ author Andy Griffiths on Thursday the 8th of August. Through this opportunity students will explore engaging literary devices, such as character and plot. Students will use these as source of inspiration in their own writing as we explore conventions of persuasive and narrative writing in Semester 2.
