Week 3 Term 3

Year 3/4 Camp

The weather has been absolutely fabulous down at Phillip Island. The children have been enjoying the Koala Conservation Reserve across the road from the camp. They have also been making pancakes, trying out the giant swing, flying fox, archery, scaling the boulder wall and low ropes. They are off to the Penguin Parade this evening and are extremely excited.

Parent/Carer Survey Carlton North Outside School Hours Care

The Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program, TeamKids, is a service provided for our families at CNPS. The School Council is responsible for making decisions regarding establishing or operating an OSHC service. The Education Subcommittee and School Council President Rebecca Slater are responsible for making decisions and monitoring the service.

We value the feedback from our CNPS families and ask that you please take the time to answer the short survey:

We ask that all families please complete this survey whether your child/ren attends the OSHC service or not, as this will provide us with valuable feedback. The survey should take 1-5 mins of your time.

2024 Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent/Carer Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

We sent you an invitation to complete the survey via email through Compass yesterday. If you have misplaced this, please reach out and we can resend this invitation to you.

The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 30 August 2024.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.

The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

The survey is available in English and 10 other languages: Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. If you require assistance in another language, resources may be available for you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

Government Schools Principal Conference

On Monday, Jane and Rachel attended the Government Schools Principal Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Keynote speakers included the Hon. Ben Carroll, Dr David Howes and Jenny Atta PSM. We revisited the research and data behind the revised Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 including the focus on Explicit Teaching and the research and data behind the shift to the statewide focus for all students from Foundation to Year 2 to be taught using a systematic synthetic phonics approach as part of the reading program, with a minimum of 25 minutes daily explicit teaching of phonics and phonemic awareness.

Yarra/Darebin Principal Network

Yesterday Erin and Rachel attended the Yarra/Darebin Principal Network meeting where Carlton North Primary School was presented with a Silver Award for our implementation of Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Supports. In addition, the Principals from Croxton School and Lynall Hall Community School shared information about their schools and what they can offer students as an alternate setting to mainstream schooling. The Learning Specialist from Westgarth Primary School also shared their Teaching and Learning Model for Mathematics.
