Physical Education

Upper School

Last term students in Athletics, students applied a range of movement concepts and strategies in their running, throwing and jumping skills by experiencing events, such as: Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Hurdles, Relay and Sprinting events. They demonstrated ethical behaviour and fair play through measuring and timing their own and others' performances in these events. This term during Net Games students will design and perform movement skills in games, such as Tennis, Table Tennis and Volleyball. Throughout these modified games and activities students focus on developing a broad range of complex motor skills and continue to use a range of game concepts and strategies.

Lower School

During Physical Education students further developed their Fundamental Movement skills in different situations.  Last term they practiced and performed simple movement sequences of hitting a range of balls with a range of different bats in a variety of situations.  Using modified Net and Striking Games students used strategies to work on their own and in groups when participating in physical activities.  This term during a Gymnastics unit students will develop their balancing, rolling and locomotor skills while constructing imaginative and original movement sequences.

NRL Clinics

During the last weeks of term some students in years 1-4 took part in some clinics hosted by the NRL.  Here they learned new skills and concepts around Rugby, like the shape of the ball, how to score a try, stepping, passing, etc.

3 - 6 Visual Arts

The Senior students have begun the term by looking at two First Nations artists.

The Year Three and Four students have looked at the artwork of Bronwyn Bancroft, a proud Bundjalung woman. They explored her book, Patterns of Australia and made observations of how she painted the natural environments of this land. The students were then taken to the billabong at the rear of our school. They drew the billabong and then used Bancroft’s style to add pattern and symbols to their work.

The Year Five and Six students explored the life and artwork of Albert Namatjira. They looked at his watercolour landscapes, experimented with watercolour painting themselves and then created a watercolour painting of the billabong at the rear of the school.

ITALIAN

The goals of the Italian program are to develop:

  • A positive attitude towards language learning.
  • Italian language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Knowledge about Italian culture.
  • Understandings about the nature of language and the processes of communication.
  • An understanding of how culture shapes and extends learners’ understanding of themselves, their own heritage, values, beliefs, culture and identity.

Preps are extending their prior learning of colours, recognising the colours visually, orally and in written form. We are now commencing a unit on ‘gli animali’ (animals) where we will learn animal names as well as notice that in Italian the sounds that people associate with animals are different to the sounds we think of for animals in Australia.

Year One will be exposed further to the Italian Language through a variety of activities including stories, games, songs and conversations. The students will continue to learn about Australian animals.

Year Two students will continue to interact with the teacher and peers to greet, to introduce themselves, state how they are feeling and how old they, state the colours and numbers are via oral games and written activities. Students will be working on improving their reading skills, including refining their pronunciation and developing their comprehension.

This term, the students in Year Three and Four will explore the Italian Language through a variety of activities including stories, games, songs and conversations. The students will also be introduced to and explore ways to describe ‘Gli animali Australiani’ (The Australian Animals).

Year Five and Six students have been exploring ‘I numeri’ (numbers 1-1000) as well as language associated with ‘la matematica’ (mathematics). They have been using this knowledge to solve mathematical equations. The students are also able to express the time in Italian language and to express what they do at different times of the day.

The year wouldn’t be complete without including Christmas. It is a very religious time for Italians. Students will be learning about the Christmas witch – La Befana and the many traditions associated with Christmas in Italy. Students will be encouraged to consider the similarities and differences of their Christmas traditions.

      POSITIVE EDUCATION

Positive Education at Resurrection School teaches students skills, knowledge and practical strategies to promote and strengthen student wellbeing and enhance positive relationships in our school community.

In Term 4, the focus of Positive Education will be based on The Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships program which is part of the Victorian Curriculum. This semester some of the focuses are on helping, stress management, identity and positive relations.

The Prep cohort recently participated in wellbeing rotations and discussed trying new things.

They learnt that we can help others and ask for help. They reflected on and discussed when and who to ask for help.

The Year 1 and 2 students have explored coping with stress and identified ways in which students can use self-calming strategies to manage themselves in stressful situations.

The Year 3 and 4 students have explored help seeking and identified the importance of bravery and communication skills in help-seeking.

The Year 5 and 6 students have Identified situations in which they should seek help in working through problems. The Grade 6 students weeded, planted seedlings and reflected on helping others and asking for help at home, school and in community.

The Positive Education program at Resurrection School works towards assisting students to live a life in a way that cares for their individual wellbeing while contributing to the wellbeing of others.
