Literacy

To embrace our love of reading our students will begin an Author Study looking into the amazing illustrations and writing of Eric Carle! We will continue to take home 5 'Just Right' book--3 decodable readers, and 2 PM readers. The decodable readers are for our students to practise their reading and decoding skills and the PM readers are for shared reading with you and your child.

To challenge our Brave Writer's we are introducing editing and exploring different ways to improve our writing such as adding punctuation, 'juicy' words and adding detail to enhance our sentences. We will also be using our school iPads to build a digital 'Writer's Notebook' and practice writing across various mediums.  

This term, we will continue on with the Sounds-Write program, which is a phonics approach to the teaching of Reading and Writing. We will be teaching digraphs such as 'th' and 'ch'. We will be building, spelling and reading words using these sounds.

We will also continue to learn high frequency words,these are the words that will appear most in their 'Just Right' books. You can continue to support your child to learn their High Frequency words by practising their word lists and finding them in their readers.
