Chinese Studies - Journey Beyond Language
Our Year 7 students studying Chinese are embarking on a gastronomic journey through the diverse palate of Chinese cuisine. From sizzling Sichuan dishes to sumptuous Dim Sum, our eager linguists are mastering the names of iconic dishes. Their newfound vocabulary will soon allow them to navigate and order food from Melbourne's authentic Chinese eateries.
Meanwhile, Year 8 Chinese students are taking a dive into the topic about school life. By comparing the education systems of China and Australia, they're not only reflecting on their own education, but also gaining unique insights into the life of Chinese students— from morning exercises to their favourite subjects, fostering global connections and understanding.
In Year 9 they are exploring a shopping unit being an exhilarating blend of language and commerce. Students practice bargaining through role-plays, transforming the classroom into a vibrant Chinese marketplace. Their achievements are rewarded with Chinese coupons. These aren't just symbols of merit but currency for the grand end-of-unit auction.
Will they bag that big prize or opt for multiple smaller ones? Anticipation is high!
