Scoresby Secondary College Yarning Circle

Last term VCE Vocational Major students (VM) students researched the cultural significance of Yarning Circles within Koorie history.  During the research stage, students had the opportunity to  meet the Outer Eastern Region  Koorie Education Support Officer to further their knowledge prior to designing and commencing the construction of a Scoresby Secondary College Yarning Circle. Since the term break, all students have worked collaboratively to complete the project prior to Year 12 students final day next week.

As I write this article, the students are in the process of designing the signage for the space which they will baffix to the seating . Later this term,  the Year 12 Vocational Major students will be invited back to the college for the official launch of  the Yarning Circle.

Revision Sessions for Year 12 Students

Over the Term 3 holidays, Year 12 students from Knox schools were provided with the opportunity to hear from top VCAA assessors and presenters in preparation for their final exams. The revision sessions initiated and extended to include all Knox government schools is coordinated by Scoresby Secondary College. The program was well attended and student feedback was very positive.

Farewell Year 12

As our Year 12 students prepare to finish their secondary schooling, I wish them the very best for their exams and tertiary pursuits.  They have been a delightful group that have supported each other well throughout the year and possess the qualities to be highly successful adult members of the community.

Dedicated and Hard Working Students

As we approach the end of the academic year, it is important to recognise the dedication and hard work of our students. The VCE examinations are just around the corner, and this can be a stressful time for our students.

However, with the right mindset and strategies, our students can approach these examinations with confidence. While our students have received some very good guidance throughout the year the following points are worth reinforcing:

  • Create a study schedule and stick to it – this will help you stay organised and on track with your studying
  • Practice past exam papers to get a feel for the format and style of questions you are likely going to face – at least four, but preferably six, per subject, before each exam
  • Ensure you take regular breaks to avoid burning out
  • And finally, and perhaps most importantly, don’t forget to ask for help if you need it. Your teachers and support staff are here to assist you in any way they can.

In addition to studying, it's important to maintain your wellbeing during these stressful few weeks. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking breaks to do things you enjoy. Exercise is also a great way to relieve stress and clear your mind.

Congratulations to all of our students who have recently competed in the district athletics competition. It is always inspiring to see our students pushing themselves to achieve their best, both in and out of the classroom. Well done to all who participated!

Lastly, I want to congratulate Ms Fiona Matthews on the release of her new textbook.

Fiona who retired last year after being a valuable member of our school community for many years, has continued to support the college by returning when she can to assist with teaching and programs. We are proud of her achievements. Well done, Fiona!

As always, the well-being of our students is our top priority. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need any support during this time.
