Come, let's shout praises to God, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let's march into His presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns! And why? Because God is the best; High King over all the earth. Psalm 95:1-2

There was much music-making in the College and performance highlights at the end of Term 3 and the commencement of Term 4.

Senior Gala Concert

The final concert for Term 3 was a Gala Concert presented by the Senior ensembles. Sinfonia commenced the evening with Symphonie Espagnole (arr. T. Parrish) and Fields of Gold (arr. L. Moore). Other string ensembles to perform were Cantabile and Camerata, who featured a work by Y. Nishimura, Petite Suite Beautiful Flowers.

The Senior Concert Band captured the excitement of Bernstein’s America (arr. Vinison) and had toes tapping with the Vinison arrangement of I Got You (I Feel Good), made famous by James Brown.

Vocal items also featured, with the Middle Years Vocal Ensemble obviously enjoying presenting the Pentatonix original, Na Na Na. The Senior Vocal Ensemble performed a variety of music styles, featuring soloists Jarvis Eleveld and Leila Rivet. The Pentatonix arrangement of Take On Me proved very popular with the audience, as did the boys’ barbershop version of the Queen classic, Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

An important aspect of the evening was acknowledging the tremendous contribution made by our Year 12 students. Each one was presented with a certificate and small gift, with Pastor Matt praying a prayer of blessing.

The evening came to an exciting close with items presented by the Senior Choir. Tell Her About It (arr. J. Zaino) featured soloists from the Middle Years Vocal Ensemble, and Give Me A Song (Sorenson), with its strong Christian message and retro feel, brought the wonderful evening to a fitting conclusion.

Festival Of The Arts

Term 4 commenced with a Festival of the Arts, featuring work by students in both the Visual and Performing Arts. There were stunning art displays from both the Junior and Senior Schools. Despite the cold, many members of the College and wider community were in attendance, enjoyed a sausage in bread and a hot drink.

Many enjoyed the music performances, which included string ensembles (Malaguena, Cantabile and Camerata) in the Junior School Art precinct and several Concert Bands performed to large audiences in the open air. The Senior Concert Band performed many times throughout the evening, featuring music from many eras. The Year 6 Band made their debut performance and surprised many with the high quality of their playing. The Junior Concert Band’s repertoire also proved very popular. A particular highlight was when the Junior and Senior Concert Bands combined to present two arrangements. Also making its debut was the Senior Stage Band, a staff and student combined ensemble, presenting some rock and jazz standards.

The evening started with a Principal’s Address, as it was also a School at Work event, where the Year 6 cast of Seussical JR presented the opening number of the show. Members of the Middle Years Production, Aladdin JR, were also dressed in their finery to guide visitors to the various locations around the campus. The evening was deemed an absolute success!

Soiree Evening

Many students took up the opportunity to perform solos at a recent Soiree evening, with a full program of both Senior and Junior students. The Junior Concert featured students showing their progress on violin, viola, cello and piano, with vocal students also being featured. The Senior Concert also featured highly proficient performers on these instruments, which also included a flute solo, as well as first time performers. It was another wonderful evening of music, as well as an opportunity to thank our instructors and accompanists for their hard work throughout the year.

Senior Production

The announcement has been made, auditions have been conducted and the cast list has been decided. Stay tuned for further information on the 2024 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

VCE Performances
