🧠 Year 1/2 Science
Our Year 1/2 students became body detectives this term as they explored the amazing human body and how it helps us survive and thrive. They learned about both external and internal organs and discovered how different body systems work together to help us move, breathe, grow and respond to the world around us. Through hands-on activities, students investigated the skeletal system, learning how bones, muscles, joints and tendons work together to make movement possible. We even had some “real-life” broken bones and x-rays to check out!
They also created models of the brain, explored the important role of the heart by measuring their pulse before and after exercise, and learned about blood and the digestive system. Throughout the term, students enjoyed a range of practical and creative learning experiences that helped them understand how their bodies change as they grow and how healthy habits can help keep their bodies strong. A highlight was certainly learning about the digestive system and where food goes!
💡 Year 5/6 Science
This term, Year 5/6 students explored the fascinating science of light while developing their skills as scientific investigators. Through a variety of hands-on experiments, they discovered how light travels in straight lines and how it can be reflected, absorbed, transmitted and refracted. Students investigated the properties of different materials, classifying them as transparent, translucent or opaque, and used mirrors to explore reflection. They also examined how light affects the way we see colours and objects around us.
Alongside their study of light, students strengthened their understanding of the scientific method by learning how to design and conduct fair tests. They practised identifying and controlling variables, collecting and recording data, creating tables and graphs, and analysing their results to draw evidence-based conclusions. These investigations encouraged students to think critically and develop an appreciation for the careful planning and repeated testing that help scientists produce reliable results.
