On a chilly Wednesday morning in the last week of term, our Year 12 students enjoyed wearing Oodies to school and enjoyed hot chocolates before session 1.

We would like to wish Cooper and Claudia all the best and safe travels on the school holidays when they will trek the Kokoda Trail. We look forward to hearing about their adventure when they return.

On Tuesday 16th June, the GAT was held for 156 students and sat in 2 parts.
What is the GAT (General Achievement Test) you might ask? The GAT assesses skills in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Arts and Humanities. Sitting the GAT is an opportunity to demonstrate your literacy and numeracy skills. GAT results are important for checking if school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed and can be used if you have a Derived Examination Score approved.
Between Section A and B of the GAT, students relaxed with a movie, games, footy and a hot pie.

Last week 53 Year 12 students travelled to Melbourne to spend two days visiting Universities to help them make decisions for their futures once they finish Year 12. On Thursday we visited Monash University and Deakin University, and finished the day with dinner at Docklands and the challenge of the ‘Prison Island Escape Rooms’. On Friday, we visited RMIT and Swinburne. At each University, students toured the campuses and participated in workshops and lectures to give them an idea of what university life is like. Students came away feeling enthusiastic about future study and with a more solid idea of where they would like to pursue their chosen courses.

On Monday 22nd June, 38 Science, Health and Physical Education students from Year 11 and 12, travelled to Melbourne to see an exhibition called “Body Worlds: The anatomy of happiness”. This exhibition displayed the plastinated bodies and organs of people who have donated their bodies to science. It was a fascinating exhibition that made us all marvel at the wonder of our human anatomy.
Plastination is an anatomical preservation technique invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977. It permanently replaces the body's natural fluids and fats with curable polymers, such as silicone rubber or epoxy resin, preserving the specimens so that they do not decay.

Students from the Year 10 Design and Development Games class recently participated in the ESports Collective Interschool Secondary Competition held in Bairnsdale. This event is part of the Australian Esports League (AEL) school competitions program, which delivers structured, curriculum-aligned esports experiences designed to develop students’ digital literacy, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
In preparation for this competition, students have recently completed a unit of work focused on game development principles, including the use of different development styles and digital asset creation methods. These learning experiences supported students in understanding how design decisions, mechanics, and strategy directly influence performance in competitive environments.
On the day, despite our school being the only one in attendance, students engaged fully with the competition format and demonstrated strong commitment across all events.
Outstanding individual results were achieved across all categories, with students securing podium finishes in every event entered. Jacob and Nikolai were standout performers, each achieving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes across different events. Aubrey also performed exceptionally well, achieving both 1st and 2nd place results and ranking among the highest-performing students.
The Year 10 cohort demonstrated strong individual skill, focus, and engagement throughout the competition. Their achievements reflect both the depth of their recent learning in game development and their ability to apply these skills in a competitive setting.
