Principal's Message

Dear Parent and Carers,
As we reach the end of Semester 1, student reports are now available to view on Compass. Reports provide an important opportunity to celebrate the progress, growth and achievements of every student, while also identifying areas for continued development. I encourage families to take the time to read through the reports together, celebrating successes while discussing goals for Semester 2. Every student is on their own learning journey, and recognising improvement, commitment and a willingness to embrace challenges is just as important as celebrating academic success.
The final weeks of the semester have been filled with celebration, reflection and preparation as we look ahead to an exciting second half of the year. Across the College we have recognised excellence in the classroom, on the sporting field, through the arts and in the wider community. It has been wonderful to see so many students striving to achieve their personal best, and I am incredibly proud of the positive culture of learning, respect and high expectations that continues to grow across our College.
Many of our students are already beginning to think about their future pathways as they progress through their education. On Tuesday 16th June, 156 VCE and VCE-VM students sat the General Achievement Test (GAT). We congratulate all students on their commitment and the positive way they approached this important milestone.
A strong group of 53 Year 12 students recently attended the Tertiary Overnight Camp, where they experienced university life firsthand. Over two days, students visited Monash, Deakin, RMIT and Swinburne universities, gaining valuable insight into future study opportunities and helping them make informed decisions about their post-school pathways.
Our Junior College has also been celebrating success, recognising the top 20 high-achieving students from each year level with a well-deserved pizza lunch. It was wonderful to acknowledge their hard work and commitment to learning.
On Thursday we came together as a whole school in Boucher Hall to celebrate the many achievements of our students throughout Semester 1. More than 130 awards were presented during the assembly, recognising excellence across a range of areas. While we celebrate these individual achievements, I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our entire school community. Every day, our students continue to strive to achieve their personal best, and it is wonderful to see the standards and expectations across our College continuing to rise. I was especially proud of the respect shown by the more than 1,100 students who attended the assembly, many experiencing a whole-school assembly for the very first time. Their support and celebration of one another was truly outstanding.
Our Year 12 students marked the end of term with Oodie and Pyjama Day, enjoying hot chocolates as they took a well-earned opportunity to relax after a busy semester. As they enter the final stretch of their secondary schooling, Semester 2 will be both exciting and demanding. Their preparation and commitment throughout the year will place them in good stead for the months ahead.
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the East Gippsland Music Festival, hosted by Orbost Community College. After a week of rehearsals and collaboration, students from across the region came together to celebrate music and showcase their incredible talents. More than 80 of our music students participated in the festival, representing our College with pride. It was wonderful to witness not only their musical ability but also the friendships and connections formed across East Gippsland.
A heartfelt thank you to the students and families for their commitment throughout the week, and to Orbost Community College for hosting such a fantastic event. I would also like to acknowledge our outstanding music team, led by Kim Green, whose dedication behind the scenes makes opportunities like this possible. The countless hours they invest in rehearsals, performances and events throughout the year provide our students with experiences that are both memorable and invaluable.
As we head into the Winter break, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for another successful semester. Your ongoing support of our College and our young people is greatly appreciated.
I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting semester of learning and achievement.
Sincerely,
Tony Roberts
Principal
