What’s Happening in 5/6?
The 5/6 team has had an exciting and productive few weeks, and we’re thrilled to share some of the highlights from our classrooms and beyond!
Buddies & Social Skills
Each Friday, our Year 6 students have been spending time with their Foundation buddies as part of our cross-age buddies program. These sessions focus on building meaningful connections and developing our younger students’ confidence through play and interaction. Together, they’ve been learning fundamental motor skills through games and movement activities.
Recently, we also shared a lunchtime session where the focus was on social interaction. Students practised speaking and listening in a relaxed setting, learning how to engage in conversations while eating, take turns, use polite language, and support their younger buddies in group settings. These shared experiences are not only fun but also important for building empathy, patience, and leadership.
Mappen Expo – At the end of last term our students showcased their work on their Mappen inquiry projects. They explore the theme Think Global, Act Local. Each class focused on a different region of the world.
56H explored Asia, 56C took on Europe, and 56K investigated the Americas.
Students researched cultural traditions, environmental challenges, economic influences, and how people in these areas are working towards global sustainability goals.
Here are some examples of our students hard at work bringing their projects to life. On the day of the expo there was colourful displays, interactive presentations, and plenty of learning on show!
