Principal's Message
End of Term Reflection
As we approach the end of Term 2, I would like to thank students, staff and community members for all their efforts over the last few months. Staff have been working hard to ensure our instruction is targeted and explicit, enabling students to reach their academic potential. Students have been practising our expected behaviours, with staff working hard to acknowledge all their efforts as we live our values. Alongside our core learning we've had many events to enjoy: bike rides, lawn bowls, excursions and incursions, trivia nights and discos (this Friday!), working bees and chess club, inter-school sport and cross country, pyjama days and lots of coffee at the 'Wick. I feel grateful to be a part of such an active community, we continue to grow as a school and I am very excited for what we will achieve in the remainder of the year and beyond.
Trivia night
A huge thank you to all who helped organise and manage our trivia night last weekend. It was a tremendous success, with a great time had by all - I had no idea we had so many talented dancers amongst our parent community. This is the third year in a row the Parents and Friends Committee have run this event; it is now an institution that we can look forward to every year. All funds raised on the evening go directly towards supporting our school.
JSC and yellow park student consultation
Speaking of funds raised, it is the money raised by the Parents and Friends Committee that has enabled us to move forward with the upgrade to the Yellow Park playground. Junior School Council (JSC) have been consulting their peers, gaining insight into what they want the upgrade to look like.
JSC designed a consult process where every student in the school was able to vote for three different pieces of playground equipment. They then took those 500 odd data points and entered it into a spreadsheet for analysis. Last night they joined our school council meeting, presenting their findings to council to inform the playground procurement process.
This student voice is integral to ensuring the playground reflects student wishes, but more than that it fosters a sense of connection and ownership in our students. It is their school, and they have a genuine say in the decisions we make.
The school will now move forward with securing a playground construction company who can design a space reflecting the student consultation.
Quadrangle almost finished!
A quick note to say the quadrangle works are still moving along according to schedule. If all goes to plan the space will be open for use at the start of Term 3. We have a tentative grand opening planned for Friday July 25 at 9:10am. Look out for more details to come, we'd love to see you there to celebrate our new space.
Upcoming works
While the quadrangle works are winding down, there are a number of major works planned at the school in the coming months. The most significant will be underpinning and maintenance works in the South wing of the newer building, near the 3-4 and 5-6 classrooms. These works will block the pathway from the oval to blue park for a significant period of time. At this stage they are not likely to interrupt classes, however we will monitor the works closely to ensure learning is still viable in the classrooms nearby. Whilst inconvenient, these works will ensure our building is secure for current and future students.
