Emma Edmonds
As was previously shared with school community members, we farewell Mrs Emma Edmonds as she moves across to St Thomas the Apostle, Blackburn for Semester Two. We thank Emma for her contributions to Sacred Heart Kew and for teaching and supporting the 1EE children this semester, and wish her well with this new role.
Holly Burke will return as Year One classroom teacher (full time) for Semester Two. We look forward to welcoming Holly back to the Sacred Heart Kew school community next term. Holly is very excited to be re-joining the Sacred Heart Kew staff and school community and enjoyed meeting the Year One children last week.
Michael O’Donnell
We also say farewell and thank you to Michael O'Donnell, who has been our Maintenance Manager for the last 15 years. Michael has decided that the time has arrived for a well deserved retirement, and is looking forward to some rest and relaxation time away from the gardens and grounds of Sacred Heart Kew.
Over the years, Michael has quietly kept the heart of this school beating, ensuring our classrooms are ready for learning, our hallways safe and clean, and our facilities always functioning at their best. Whether it was fixing a leaking pipe, blowing away those leaves or retrieving many lost items (from hard to reach positions), Michael has done it all.
We welcome Tom Reid who replaces Michael as Maintenance Manager next term. Over the last few weeks, Tom has been working alongside Michael, learning the ropes, and is excited to join the Sacred Heart Kew school and community in Semester Two.

On Monday 23 June, we welcomed Sister Brigid Arthur from the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project. The Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) was established in 2001. It is a Melbourne-based initiative of the Brigidine Sisters whose motto is Strength and Kindness. The Brigidine Sisters have been engaged in education and social justice in Victoria since 1886.
The Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) aims to:
- Provide hospitality and practical support for people seeking asylum;
- Actively network with like-minded individuals and groups who are working for justice for asylum seekers;
- Promote advocacy for the rights of people seeking asylum;
- Engage in education about asylum seekers’ issues.
Thank you to Miss Privitelli's dad, Vince, for picking up the bags of grocery items and delivering them to the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project in Albert Park.
Congratulations
Well done to Ethan L (4MD) who achieved 2nd place in the primary school category of the Boroondara Photography Competition last Wednesday evening. 2025 School Closure Days
As was communicated to families last year...
* Time in Lieu (TIL)
The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.
Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
