Breaksea House News

As we reach the end of a busy Term Two, I want to congratulate every one of you for making it through. That’s no small feat, and you’ve done it with resilience, good humour, and plenty of memorable moments along the way.
It was pleasing to see students who embraced collaborative learning this term, especially around the new whiteboards. It’s been fantastic to see you helping each other revise, problem-solve, and prepare together. We’ve also been really pleased to see so many of you making the most of tutoring sessions with academic staff from the day school, a great way to take ownership of your learning.
To our Year Ten students: I know some of you may not have received the marks you were hoping for. Please don’t be disheartened. I’ve seen firsthand the time and effort you’ve put in, and that matters. Exams are not the only measure of your ability or future success. What’s most important is your ability to persevere and reflect on what works best for your learning. Figuring out how you learn is a major step, and you’re well on your way.
A heartfelt congratulations to Mikaela Burton, who welcomed her beautiful baby girl, Pippa Iris, into the world on 24 June. We are so thrilled for you and your family, and we wish you all the very best as you begin this exciting new chapter as a family of four.
A very happy (slightly belated) birthday to Evita Rumble and Esteanne Newfield, who both celebrated in the past few weeks! We hope your special days were filled with fun, laughter, and something sweet.
One of the major highlights this week is, of course, Country Week! We have 14 boarders up in Perth representing GSG, and we couldn’t be prouder. Best of luck for the week’s fixtures, we know you’ll do us proud.
For those staying in Breaksea, it’s been lovely to see everyone enjoying a slower pace after such a busy and demanding term. A huge thank you to Sarah for organising some fantastic rec activities, especially the trip to the Denmark Chocolate Factory, which was a hit and thoroughly well deserved!
I also want to take a moment to thank all the Breaksea supervisors who have remained calm, kind, and consistent throughout the term. There have certainly been a few pressure points within the house, but I’m so proud, and so confident, in the way our supervisors care for the students. Their steady presence, patience, and genuine commitment to student wellbeing are what help make Breaksea such a safe and supportive place to live and grow.
I also had the pleasure of watching Sophie Harris, Rif McNeil-Hanna, and Emmeline Cunningham perform at their VET music show. It’s been such a joy to witness their growth over the past two years, and their final performance was both polished and genuinely entertaining. Well done, your hard work has truly paid off!
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday. May it be filled with rest, reset, and all the little things that recharge you. We look forward to welcoming you back, refreshed, and ready for Term Three!
