School News and Information

STAGE 3 NEWS
It has been a busy term for Stage 3 with cross country, school photos, PSSA Soccer Trials, Jay Stone doing field event skills, school disco, Multicultural Public Speaking Competition, Spelling Bee, Eisteddfods, Musica Viva, Debating Workshop, STEM Day at ASC and Netball Gala Day.
Hard to believe but we have been doing some learning particularly in decimals, multiplication, division, chance and position. Here are some of our maths photos from our number groups.
We have also been learning to write information reports using Seven Steps writing techniques and making our writing more engaging for the reader. Here are some of our sizzling starts:
I dug down through the thick mud, dirt splatting on my face. My friends call me a digger because I help dig out trenches. As I’m digging I hit something hard, it feels like metal. As I realise it's a bomb. Did you know 25 000 Australian boy soldiers under the age of 18 years old fought in World War 1? The youngest soldier was James Martin at the age of 14 who served in Galipolli. - Zara
The trench was our home, but it felt more like a cold, dark, hollow grave. Everyday was the same. We lived in a world of mud, rats, disease and constant threat of death. In the war people constantly suffered through pain and living in a room that was 3 metres deep and 1-2 metres long. I am here today to tell you about the cold, hard, rough truth about living in the trenches. - Arie
Did you know that the Western Front was a 700 kilometre stretch of battle fields and trenches in France? The trench warfare on the Western Front was a deadly line of battles and muddy-trenches. Would you like to be involved in this battle? - Frankie
In History Stage 3 have been learning about Australia’s path towards Federation. Students have learnt about famous figures in the process of Federation such as Sir Henry Parkes and Sir Edmund Barton. These are some examples of students’ word clouds on Federation.
In Science Stage 3 have been learning about the Earth’s Solar System and the planets relative sizes and distances from the sun. Students created a scaled model of the planets including their distance from the sun as part of their learning. Discussions in this learning have included how the sun provides energy to Earth and its effect on providing power for life on Earth. Students have studied significant Australian people and their path to working in the space industry. You can read about Katherine Bennel-Pegg and Meganne Christian in the reports made by two of our students.
In English our focus text is Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief. Students have been reading this fictional story about a small boy Sasha and his journey and experiences in World War 2. This was linked to our ANZAC learning earlier in the term.
Stage 3 are very lucky to have Miss Jubb in our classroom this term. She will be with us for 4 weeks completing her placement for her university teaching degree. See below some information about Miss Jubb:
