Football Lightning Premiership
On Friday the 13th of June the St Agnes' football team went to play the Lightning Premiership against other schools in the Holt district. We were in a pool with 3 other teams, St Columba’s, St Anthony’s and St Joseph's Elsternwick.
In the first game against St Columba’s we won by an impressive 80 point margin, and the second game against St Anthony's was no different. After we won our first two games of the day we went on to face St Joseph's Elsternwick, which was going to be our toughest game yet. We ended up losing by 6 goals but we still had a guaranteed spot in the semi final against OLOL (Our Lady Of Lourdes).
The semi final was definitely our most exciting game yet. They were a tough team, and coming into the halftime interval we were down by only 11 points. After all of our players stepped up we cut their margin to only six points. In the last moments of what we thought was the last game of our day, Hudson took a mark with 5 seconds to go, right in front. After the siren went Hudson stepped up and kicked a goal in the clutch to make it a tiebreaker. We had extra time with two three minute halves. It was very tense and we ended up kicking a point with not long to go, after pressure seconds ticked down, our midfielders locked it in and the final siren blew, that one point we kicked got us into the grand final.
After an amazing effort our team was excited and it all came down to this one game. We were playing against St Joseph's again. After the first bounce commenced it was clear this would be a really tough game. With a lot of talent in their midfield, they rose to the occasion making it tough for us to get the momentum swinging our way. Coming into the halftime break we were only down by 8 points. After playing extra time in the last match some of our players were exhausted making it harder to run out the whole second half. We ended up losing by 30 points and St Joseph's got their third grand final win in a row.
It was ultimately a very fun experience and it was a privilege to come. Here are some players we need to highlight: Lenny, Hudson, Conor, Jonty, Thomas, Harry, Orlando, and Christos, and we want to thank all of the Year 4 boys that helped our team out.

Netball Lightning Premiership
On the 12th of June last week some of the Year 5 and 6 students went to Duncan McKinnon netball courts for a round robin. We had two teams, one mixed and an A grade girls team.
The Semi Finals was against St Anthony's, we went into this game with a good attitude and our best teamwork. We needed to win this game to get into the finals. We started off with our best pressure and once we got the ball we kept making passes that we knew they couldn't get to. After we got a couple goals in, they started to make a comeback. We played our best defence and offence and we got away with the win 12 to 6 and were are so pumped for the finals while also being a little nervous.
The best game for the A team was against St Anthony's. We led the whole game, 21 to 0. We put our best foot forward and kept shooting goals, being on our players and didn't let them out of our sight. We were thrilled to have our first win of the day. We played as a team and never gave up if something didn’t go our way.
The girls semi final was close and we were against St James. They were a very hard team to beat and unfortunately we lost by a few points. We tried our hardest but they tried harder.
In the end the mixed team got into the grand final versus St Joseph’s Elsternwick. It was a fun and exciting game. It was thrilling because the ball kept going back and forth between both teams. It was a close score but St Agnes' took the win. Throughout every game St Agnes' had great teamwork and sportsmanship. We would always support and cheer on our teammates. The B team got the shield 3 years running ! We hope that will keep going throughout St Agnes' years ahead.
