Welcome back to term 3!
I hope you all were able to enjoy the break. I was lucky enough to have long service leave at the end of last term and I spent a month in Greece, London and finished in Canada with my family. The below photo is from a gorgeous town called Waterton in Alberta, where we spent some time on the lake.
George will be on leave until the end of August due to medical reasons. Unfortunately he has had issues with an historical hernia which need to be attended to. Jarrod Bradley will continue to work in the office as acting assistant principal and I will be in the acting principal role until George’s return.
Trivia Night
We are looking forward to this year's trivia night on Saturday the 16th of August. Information has been posted on Compass, along with the silent auction. There are so many terrific items to bid on. Thank-you to the team of parents working on this amazing event. The staff have their table ready and are brushing up on their general knowledge and trivia skills!

Attendance
As always, we want children to attend as many days of school as possible to maximise their academic achievement. We understand that sickness tends to take hold at this time of year. Being on time is also extremely important. The graphics below demonstrate the lost learning time when children are arriving late and have many days off. We encourage the children to be here and on time as much as they can!
Science Week and Literacy
This term we are celebrating Science Week by conducting many experiments throughout the term. Year levels are linking their literacy to science reports and procedures. There will be options for students to engage in more science during Science Week alongside the weekly experiments they are doing in their classroom. Already the children have been loving their experiments!
Book Week and Dress Up Day
In Week 5, August 18th - 22nd, our school will be celebrating Children’s Book Week. On Thursday the 21st of August we will be having a dress up day, where students can wear a costume of their favourite character, author or book. We will be having a short parade to show off our wonderful costumes from 9:10. Further information will be sent via Compass and the location of the parade will be weather dependent.
7 Habits Family BINGO Challenge! Let’s bring the 7 Habits to life at home!
We’re inviting all families to participate in our optional 7 Habits Family BINGO — a fun and meaningful way to practise the Leader in Me habits together!
This BINGO card was chosen by our very own Student Lighthouse Team, and the Student Lighthouse Captains carefully chose the prizes they think students will be most excited about!
Each square on the BINGO card includes a simple activity linked to one of the 7 Habits. Complete five activities in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row to earn an entry into our prize draw or go for full card BINGO for the chance to win our big prize!
Due Date: All BINGO cards must be returned to their classroom teacher by Monday the 15th of September (Beginning of Week 9).
🎁 Prizes:
- 5 in a row: Go into the draw to win a $50 Village Cinemas Gift Card
- Full card completed: Go into the draw to win a $100 Timezone & Zone Bowling Southland Gift Card
📝 How to Enter:
- Complete the activities as a family.
- Write what you did or provide photos/drawings as proof.
- Return the completed BINGO card to your child’s teacher by the due date.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect as a family, practise leadership, and have some fun together.
Let’s live the 7 Habits together!
I wish you all a fun and relaxing weekend, the weather seems to be warming up for us, so I hope you get to spend some time outside with your loved ones.
Kind regards
Courtney Mason
