Visual Arts

Last week in Visual Arts, all students explored and experimented with the many ways paper can be manipulated. They tore, cut, folded, twisted, bent, looped, rolled, and curled paper to create different effects. Foundation students used these new skills to design and construct their very own 3D paper sculptures. Year 1/2 students created and built imaginative 3D paper playgrounds, featuring slides, tunnels, ladders, monkey bars, seesaws, trampolines, climbing walls, swings, and more. Year 3/4 students have been exploring the work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, best known for her bold, engaging, and repetitive artworks featuring polka dots that symbolise infinity and repetition. Inspired by Kusama’s unique style, students decorated pieces of paper with dots, then applied various paper manipulation techniques to construct vibrant 3D paper sculptures on baseboards. Year 5/6 students designed, decorated, cut, and folded 2D net shapes to create a variety of 3D forms. These shapes were then carefully stacked onto a skewer stick to form unique and eye-catching 3D paper totem sculptures.

Culture Studies

This week in Culture Studies, students took a trip (in the classroom) to explore the vibrant culture of France. They learnt where France is located, its population, the language spoken, and the meaning behind the three colours of the French flag. Students also discovered the Fleur-de-lis, a traditional French emblem that has been used for centuries to symbolise royalty, heritage, and national pride. To bring their learning to life, they created their own mini-French flag and designed a colourful 3D Fleur-de-lis piece.Β

PEΒ

For the past two weeks in PE, students in all year levels and been introduced to, and developed their knowledge and skills in basketball. They have started with dribbling and passing, and have moved onto shooting and mini games. This has been a timely start as we have our Kingston District basketball competition coming up next week for some of our year 5 and 6 students. It has been pleasing to see the enjoyment that all students have shown during these lessons, but also see how quickly they have all picked up the skills.

Well done to all students.
