Agency in Learning – Being Reflective
As student reports are released, it is a valuable time to pause and reflect. We encourage students to reflect not only on the outcomes, but also on the learning journey behind them. At All Saints’ College, we continue to foster agency in learning by encouraging students to be reflective thinkers. That is, we want our young people to assess their growth, recognise their strengths and identify opportunities to improve.
Reflection is a powerful act of ownership. When students take time to consider what strategies supported their progress, how they responded to challenges and what they might do differently in Term 3, they build a deeper understanding of themselves as learners. This self-awareness is key to developing independence, confidence, and long-term success.
At home, parents can support this process by creating space for thoughtful conversations. Questions such as, “What are you most proud of?” or “What would you like to approach differently next time?” can help students move beyond the marks and towards meaningful growth.
As a New Metrics for Success Research Partner, we continue to explore ways to support students in becoming reflective, agentic learners who take initiative, learn from experience and shape their own path forward.
We are proud of the effort and courage our students have shown this term and look forward to the continued development of their reflective learning habits.
