In this final newsletter for 2024, we would like to take the opportunity to thank the families of Milgate for their involvement and support throughout the year. Throughout the year, we have enjoyed a multitude of engaging events and rich learning experiences. To the departing staff and students, we appreciate your contributions and wish you all the best in your future endeavours. As we head into the holiday season, we wish you all a safe and enjoyable break. May the upcoming year bring more success and shared moments of joy.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

Congratulations to the graduating 2024 Year 6 students. This milestone event, held on Wednesday 11th December, was a heartwarming celebration filled with joy and pride. The students themselves shared touching reflections, highlighting cherished memories and the valuable lessons learned during their time at Milgate Primary School. As our Year 6 students embark on the next chapter, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for their continued success and growth.

YEAR 2 | HOW WE ORGANISE OURSELVES

This week, Year 2 put on a great display of their event planning skills to share with the school community. The students planned and collaborated to develop an event as part of their unit of inquiry, How we organise ourselves.

We had an Arcade in 2CD, a Talent Show in 2TE, Art workshops in 2JK, Brilliant Boardgames in 2CM and Mini-Makers Market in 2JG.

There were lots of skills on display which impressed our visitors including parents, students, teachers and even principals!

STUDENTS TAKING ACTION

As an IB PYP school, we aim to nurture curious, compassionate and active lifelong learners. At the heart of the IB PYP is the belief that students should not only acquire knowledge but also take meaningful action based on their inquiries.

This belief has been on display across the school this week. Our Year 2 students have created community events where they have invited school friends, parents and teachers to participate in their event. Year 5 students have run a Makers Market, where they have displayed their learning in the curriculum area of economics and business. They have undertaken market research, created products and learnt about techniques used to persuade consumers so that they could run a market where the proceeds will be donated to Foodbank. Year 6 students are considering how the journey of their primary school education can be portrayed through the arts and are creating a large mosaic that will be displayed in the school.

Throughout the school year, students have delved into various inquiries that sparked their curiosity and expanded their understanding of the world. These inquiries ranged from exploring environmental issues and cultural diversity to investigating technological advancements and social justice issues. Each inquiry was driven by the students' questions and challenged them to make a difference.

The transition from inquiry to action is to be celebrated and our students have demonstrated incredible creativity and commitment in their efforts to address the issues they care about.

As we celebrate the remarkable actions taken by our students, we also acknowledge the support of our dedicated teachers, parents, and community members. Their guidance and encouragement have been instrumental in empowering our students to make a positive impact.

Our students' enthusiasm for taking action is a powerful reminder that young minds have the potential to change the world.

In the spirit of the IB PYP, let us continue to foster a culture of curiosity, compassion, and action, inspiring our students to be proactive contributors to a better world.

YEAR 5 MAKER'S MARKET

At the Maker's Market on Thursday, our Year 5 students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit by crafting innovative business plans and unique products for sale within the school community. The event not only fostered a sense of entrepreneurship but also provided a platform for practical application of their skills. The Maker's Market allowed students to showcase their creativity and nurtured valuable lessons in teamwork, marketing, and real-world problem-solving. It was an inspiring display of talent and innovation, reflecting the dynamic and enterprising spirit of our Year 5 students. Thank you very much to the whole school community, we raised over $3,400 which will be donated to Foodbank Victoria who are very grateful for Milgate’s support.

PARENT HELPERS' MORNING TEA

On Tuesday, we held a Parent Helpers’ Morning Tea to extend our thanks to the dedicated parents who generously volunteered their time to contribute to the success of our school events. Their commitment enhances the overall experience for our students and fosters a sense of community spirit. Their involvement in various activities, whether big or small, makes a significant impact, creating memorable moments for everyone involved and we deeply appreciate the time and effort they invest in enriching the educational journey for all.

CELEBRATION DAY

Celebration Day was a blast! Each year level had their own special adventure, making it a day full of fun and excitement. Foundation students got hands-on with chocolate making, enjoyed a pizza lunch, and relaxed with some movies. Year 1 had a great time at Holey Moley, followed by more pizza and movies. Year 2 went on a thrilling adventure to Clip’n’Climb, while Year 3 had endless fun at Rainbow Town Play Centre. Year 4 bounced their way through an exhilarating day at Bounce, Year 5 enjoyed a cinematic treat at Palace Cinema Balwyn, and Year 6 had an absolute blast at Funfields. Celebration Day was all about having fun, building friendships, and creating unforgettable memories for everyone! 🎉

MEET THE TEACHER DAY| MONDAY

Students and parents will know 2024 class allocations on Monday, December 16, when students attend the 'Meet the Teacher' transition morning. Please note that extensive energy and consideration over many weeks is put into forming classes by staff and leadership, and further requests for class changes and allocations will not be considered.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Hayley T in Year 5 who auditioned and was offered a place in The Australian Ballet School’s Intra/Interstate & International Training Program (ITP) for next year. The ITP serves as the most advantageous preparation for possible study in The Australian Ballet School’s Full-Time Program.
