Year 6 Graduation Awards

Deakin Shield Citizenship Award- Matilda

Matilda is an outstanding Year 6 student whose kindness and dedication to our school community has earned her the Citizenship Award. Known for her genuine care, this student takes great pride in looking after the school’s chickens, ensuring their wellbeing with unwavering responsibility. She participates enthusiastically in every school event, from warmly welcoming families at the Welcome Back Evening to contributing to the success of Father’s and Mother’s Day breakfasts.

 

Matilda's caring nature shines brightest in her interactions with younger students, offering guidance and encouragement that makes a meaningful difference in her experience of POPS. She also demonstrated thoughtfulness and maturity when engaging with the ladies from the Country Women’s Association, leaving a lasting impression with her respectful and engaging conversation. Always ready to lend a hand, Matilda embodies the values of community, compassion, and leadership, making her a role model and a cherished member of POPS. Congratulations to Matilda, the 2024 recipient of the Deakin Shield Citizenship Award.

 

Ryan Smith Academic Excellence Award- Carter 

Carter has excelled in all areas of the curriculum and demonstrated unwavering dedication to every task. His exemplary ability to surpass expectations, along with a remarkable dedication to his studies, has driven his pursuit of excellence. 

 

In mathematics, Carter seeks to extend his knowledge by tackling challenging problems and exploring advanced topics with enthusiasm, actively taking part in the Maths Olympiad and VHAP extension programs. His passion for reading not only brings him joy but showcases his ability to look for intricate details, constantly seeking deeper understanding and striving for comprehensive knowledge of the world around him. In his writing, Carter effectively showcases his voice through his choice of subject and style, applying it across various genres. 

 

As Carter moves on to high school, he will undoubtedly continue to extend and challenge himself, maintaining his thirst for understanding, which has greatly enhanced his learning across all subjects. Congratulations to Carter, the recipient of the 2024 Academic Excellence Award!

Mandarin Award- Amelia

Amelia has shown a genuine love for the Chinese language and culture. She has a positive attitude and always strives for the best in all areas of language learning. Amelia has demonstrated an outstanding effort and dedication in learning the language. From mastering the tones to writing beautiful characters, she has made very impressive progress this year. Congratulations to Amelia, the recipient of the 2024 Mandarin Excellence Award!

Performing Arts Excellence Award- Sophia 

Sophia has a love of dance and has helped promote this art form to other students here at POPS. She has demonstrated joy in choreographing and performing a dance with friends and the teamwork and problem-solving skills required to create a dance with others. Sophia has advanced dance and choreography skills and was keen and committed to choreograph a dance for another year level for this year's school production. But it is not only dance that she has demonstrated excellence in. Sophia inspired all of us at POPS with her impressive acting in this year's school production. Her achievement for obtaining a lead role was earned not only by her talent for acting but also with her commitment, focus and hard work. Congratulations to Sophia, the recipient of the 2024 Performing Arts Award!

Visual Arts Excellence Award- Jet  

Jet is selected for the Visual Arts award this year, he is someone who achieves impressive results regardless of the medium being used, be it painting, drawing, collage, clay, sewing or sculpture. He has an eye for balance and aesthetics, along with an understanding of how art can bring joy to the maker as well as those who have the opportunity to appreciate a well finished piece. Congratulations to Jet, the recipient of the 2024 Visual Arts Excellence Award!

 

Physical Education and Sports Excellence Awards-Jeyda & Joshua

Jeyda is a student who has shown exceptional talent, determination, and leadership. She has represented the school with pride, competing in District Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics carnivals. This year, Jeyda trialled for School Sport Victoria 12/U Team Vic netball team, where she was successful after the first round and made it through to the Eastern trials. Additionally, Jeyda was part of the ISS Girls Netball team, which made it to the Division finals. As a talented netballer, she consistently supports her teammates with her friendly and helpful nature, and her determination has been an inspiration to all. She has been a pleasure to teach, and her hard work has led to many successful achievements in sport. We are so grateful for her leadership and positive energy. Congratulations to Jeyda, the recipient of the 2024 Physical Education and Sports Excellence Award!

 

Joshua is a particularly talented runner and has represented the school at a high level in Cross Country, Athletics, and Swimming. His dedication, drive, focus, passion, friendliness, and coachability have set him apart. Joshua has shown exceptional leadership both on and off the court. Last year, he reached the State level in Cross Country, showcasing his remarkable running ability. Joshua was also part of the ISS boys basketball team that made it to the Division finals, as well as the All Star Boys Hooptime team. Joshua has a bright future ahead. Congratulations to Joshua, the recipient of the 2024 Physical Education and Sports Excellence Award!
