Fixtures

From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

As the ISA summer season begins, along with all our summer sports this weekend, I wish teams all the very best in their competitions and remind all players to embrace the joy of participating.

To alleviate the pressure of a full calendar at the beginning of the school year, the college is changing the time of the senior swimming carnival to be in Term 4.  This means that we will be holding two swimming carnivals this year to align with the new timing.

Please mark the date in your calendar for the second Senior Swimming Carnival this year, which will be held on Thursday 20 November at the Lane Cove Pool.

The Junior School Swimming Carnival will still be held in Term 1 to allow our new Year 5 students to participate.

Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Basketball

Our SPX Basketball season kicked off last week with Round 0 fixtures, and it was fantastic to see such strong engagement across all teams. The internal fixtures for our C–F teams were a great success, the turnout was excellent, and the level of positive play and sportsmanship on display was truly commendable. A big thank you to all families for your support and encouragement.

Our A and B teams also gained valuable experience from their matches at St Aloysius, with plenty of learning moments and team development. We’re proud of the way our players represented SPX and embraced the challenge.

This week marks the beginning of Round 1 of the ISA season, with fixtures appearing in Clipboard. Please ensure you check Clipboard regularly for any updates or changes to game times or venues.

We’re also excited to welcome several Year 12 students into our coaching ranks this season. Their leadership and enthusiasm are a great asset to our program. Please note that due to their HSC commitments, their attendance at trainings and games may vary over the coming weeks, and some teams may have replacement coaches during this time.

There was some player movement last week, based on coach feedback and team dynamics. We’ll continue to make adjustments to ensure the best combinations and overall team balance. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to support every player’s development.

Training sessions are now well underway, with a good turnout again this week. Your son’s allocated session can be viewed in Clipboard. Please check Clipboard regularly, as player movements across age groups are ongoing and updates may occur.

Uniform Reminder

  • All ISA players need to ensure that have the correct singlet and shorts.

  • No casual clothing or crocs are permitted to be worn to and from games. Only SPX branded clothing and/or playing uniform.

  • Internal Squad players will be issued a coloured shirt for the season.

  • If you’ve purchased a Yellow singlet and your son is now in a development team, you’re entitled to a refund via the College shop. However, please note that player movements into ISA teams may occur throughout the season.

Holiday Camp Thanks

We are working on dates and times for the Christmas break. Please stay tuned for details.

ISA Round 6 – 1st XI v St Stanislaus’ College @ Oxford Falls #1

1st XI 10/169 (Archie Wragge 37, Oliver Costain 31, Jack English 23) defeated St Stanislaus’ College 10/154 (Brody Mendel 3-14, Miles Moran 2-26, Charlie Chippendale 2-37)

With the Year 11 Snowy Mountains Hike departing on Saturday 29 November the 1st XI played ISA Round 6 on Saturday 18 October.

This saw the 1st XI host St Stanislaus’ in a match of fluctuating fortunes. 1st XI Captain Oliver Freeman won the toss and batted; after the loss of an early wicket he and Archie Wragge combined for a solid partnership. At 2 for 80, the team was well placed, however a mini-collapse meant the side needed to rebuild. Oliver Costain and Viaan Singh did just that with a 41 run stand. Jack English chipped in with a very useful innings to boost the total to a competitive 169.

An early wicket to Jack English was followed by a threatening partnership which was broken by some tight and searching bowling from Dan Carroll and Brody Mendel. Brody captured two wickets in successive deliveries. The St Stanislaus’ innings ebbed and flowed as Charlie Chippendale and Miles Moran bowled strong spells. Straight bowling led to the stumps being hit five times, while Oliver Costain took two important catches.  Finally, Brody Mendel effected a run out with Charlie Chippendale for a tense victory in the second last over which showed great fight from the 1st XI.

2nd XI Cricket – Trial Match Success vs St Stanislaus'

The 2nd XI Cricket team kicked off their season with a strong performance in Saturday’s trial match against St Stanislaus'. The students showcased impressive skill and teamwork, securing a solid win through disciplined batting and sharp bowling.

Special congratulations to Ezra Hartnett, Kamran Nadeem, and Eddie Stearn, each of whom notched up stylish half-centuries. The bowling unit also delivered across the board, keeping the pressure on and maintaining control throughout the innings.

With the first competition match coming up this Saturday, the team is eager to build on this momentum and carry their winning spirit into the season ahead.

The U13 Gold recorded their first victory of the season against St Augustine’s - and no doubt it’s the first of many to come.

Haarlem Fallowfield led the bowling attack with an impressive 3 wickets, with Alex Paixao claiming 2. A highlight in the field came from Daniel Tully, who took a superb catch at mid-on to close out the innings.

Our top order - Archer Low, Charlie Gabriel, and Kent Sobey were unbreakable, all retiring not out and putting Pius in a commanding position. Kent continued his fine form after scoring 57 runs in the previous match.

Pius comfortably chased down the total, losing only one wicket. Overall, it was a dominant and well-rounded performance across all areas of the game. Well done, boys!.
