Principal's Message

The first few weeks of Term 4 have been filled with energy, celebration, and a strong sense of community across the College. As we move through this final term, it’s wonderful to see our students so engaged in their learning and our staff working collaboratively to support their success.

A key focus this term has been preparing for 2026, particularly in the area of student wellbeing. We are reimagining our sub-school structure to ensure that support for students is proactive, responsive, and sustainable. The introduction of new Assistant Director roles at each year level, along with an additional Student Wellbeing Counsellor, will strengthen the way we care for and connect with students. These changes reflect our deep commitment to the wellbeing of our students and the workload balance of our staff.

This week our students in Years 7 to 10 are completing PAT Reading and Maths assessments. These results will help teachers identify learning needs and ensure that each student continues to be challenged and supported appropriately in 2026. Our Year 12 students have now completed their final classes and are preparing for exams. Their farewell assembly and Valedictory Dinner were truly memorable occasions, a celebration of hard work, resilience, and community.

Our Arts and Performing Arts programs have also been shining brightly. Over the past two weeks we have enjoyed Vocal Night 2.0, the Art and Design Show, and the RSL Gig, which showcased the incredible talent of our students. Congratulations to our Aerobics and Dance teams, who achieved 31 medals at the Spring Challenge, a fantastic result that reflects both dedication and joy in performance.

Excitement is also building for our 70 Years Celebration this Sunday, when we will welcome over 900 past students and staff back to Mentone Girls’ Secondary College. The event will feature displays, performances, and digitised yearbooks, a beautiful reflection of our proud history and lasting community connections.

I am also thrilled to share that the tender for our new learning spaces has been accepted. The Studio project is costed at $2.150 million. This will be a 100 square metre space designed for dance, aerobics, drama, meditation and yoga. The project is entirely school funded, the result of many years of saving and careful financial planning. Our Building Fund donations have played an important role, and I encourage families to continue supporting this vital program. We also generate additional income through the hire of school facilities to the public and the international student program and these funds have been reinvested directly into this exciting project. Without the goodwill and generosity of our parent and wider community, we would not have the outstanding facilities we enjoy today.

There are now a few artists’ impressions of what The Studio will look like. The new facility will be located between the rear Charman Road car park and the oval and running track, creating an inviting and accessible hub for wellbeing and movement.Thank you to all staff, students and families for your continued support and for the way you each contribute to the vibrant life of our college.

Warm regards
