STAGE 3-Public Speaking
A lot of chitter chatter
This semester was filled with the lively buzz of public speaking. Early in Term 2, students were given the chance to put themselves forward to represent their grade, stage, and school. Year 5 and 6 students, with the support of their parents and Ms. Beyers, worked tirelessly to craft their speeches. Their grit, hard work, and determination shone through as they bravely spoke in front of a large audience. We are incredibly proud of all the students for their effort and beautifully crafted speeches. Although we could only send two students to represent our school at the SCS Bronte-Randwick public speaking event, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated.
A special congratulations to Bianca (Year 5) and Gregory (Year 6), who represented our school with Ms. Beyers and Ms. Novak. They competed against other Sydney Catholic Schools in the Bronte-Randwick area, showcasing their exceptional public speaking skills. Well done!
"The very day I had an opportunity to try out for public speaking, I took it. I took this opportunity because I enjoy discussing important matters and sharing my personal view. During the week of our presentations, I was extremely nervous, but with the support of my friends and teachers I overcame my anxiety and advanced to the second round of public speaking. Ms Novak and Ms Beyers were in the crowd supporting me and I felt good about my speech. In the second round, we had to compete against other schools with our speeches. Although the other students' speeches were impressive, I confidently went on the stage to deliver mine. The adjudicators took about five minutes to announce the final results. They revealed that three students from OLSH made it to the next round. We were given certificates for our efforts and ability to discuss our speech."

"I really enjoyed standing up in front of my classmates sharing my opinion about something that I really care about. It was amazing to see everyone looking up and listening to what I was saying. I did my speech on poverty which I think is a big problem in our world today. Me and some of my other classmates prepared a speech and they were all incredible. I think being able to speak in front of a bunch of people can improve many things in life. I would definitely give public speaking another go as I would also recommend it for you. I loved doing Public speaking and I learned so much from it too."

"In term 2, I was fortunate enough to be chosen to go through to the next round (semi-finals) for public speaking in which I wrote about the topic ‘AI- a friend of foe?’. Two of our wonderful teachers chose two people from year five and six to go to the next round (semi-finals) and one of the two included me. Although I made it to the semi-finals, I did not make it through to the grand finals, but some things I learnt from the experience was to memorise my speech and maintain eye contact. I really enjoyed the experience and I learnt a lot from going to watch the grand finals and see what set the winning speech apart from the others. "
