Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Welcome back to Term 3 and to a whole new look for our school!  After an incredible effort to empty the French, OSHC, Art and Canteen, these buildings were demolished during the holidays, providing new views and open spaces!  We can't wait until the landscaping works are completed and we can truly make the most of what will be a brand new green space.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the staff, students and parents, together with our builders who helped us to make the move in the last two days of school and to all those staff members, who worked throughout the holidays to help create some order from the chaos.  While we are still sorting out our offices and classroom spaces, everyday, we are getting that much closer!

During the last two weeks of term our bike shed extension was also errected.

Many thanks to Rylee and Peter for their assistance in assembling a new storage unit, this week, for our student foyer.

This morning, our Red Cross volunteers enjoyed their first breakfast club for Term 3, in our new canteen.

Next Friday, 26th July, we will hold our first Friday assembly for the term.  This will be held in our newly built multi-purpose building.  All classes will be sharing what they will be learning about this term, so we hope you can come along and join us for a tea/coffee/milo afterwards.  Please note that there will be no assembly tomorrow, due to the annual Winter Sports competition, in Wodonga.

On the last day of Term 2, our SRC hosted a Crazy Hair Day, to help raise funds to support kids in need.  Our SRC were inspired to support one of our year 5 students, Sebastian, who had been growing out his hair for the past 2-3 years, after he last cut it and donated to Variety - Hair With Heart. This charity supports children and their families who due to medical reasons have either lost their hair or and unable to grow their hair.  Sebastian aimed to raised $750 but he surpassed this and raised a grand total of $1,548.  Thank you to our school community for your donations, on Crazy Hair Day, of $200 which added to his tally.

Congratulations to the Black Panthers, who were premiers of this year's Netball competition.

Term 3 is always a highlight in the school year, with lots of things happening, and this year will be no exception.  Starting next Wednesday, Year 3/4 will commence their 4 week XC ski program.  Subject to weather, the Year 5/6 snow program will begin on Friday 2nd August and will consist of 3 downhill days and 2 XC days.  On Thursday 8th August, we will celebrate Book Day, with our annual dress up day, parade and cross-age activities.  In September, Year 3/4 will head to Melbourne on camp and there will also be a special incursion, Questacon Science Circus!

Our students are so fortunate to have these experiences, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to AGL for providing funding, which has been used to subsidise the costs of these programs, in particular the transport.  Many thanks also to Howmans Gap, for their support in providing a subisdised XC program, which has enabled us to offer an accessible and affordable program to families.  We greatly appreciate the support of our community in helping to provide our students the best opportunities we can.

Families are asked to please ensure consent and payment for the snow programs and camps are completed asap, on Compass.  If you require a payment plan for any of the above, please contact Joy, in the office.

Now that winter is well and truly upon us, we also ask families to ensure they pack a spare set of clothes for your child/ren in the event they may get wet/muddy.  With the recent rain, we have quite a few areas that are appear to be irresistable to play in!

A reminder to families that OSHC is now located in our old office area.  While works are still being completed, current access to the new school office is via the bus gate on Tennis Court Avenue.
