Class News from Foundation TL

We have been getting up to lots over the past couple of weeks in Foundation TL!

In iUnit, we have been looking at how our emotions help us understand our body, and what it looks like when we are feeling a certain emotion. We have also been looking at keeping our bodies safe, the different safety symbols and signs we see around school, on the road, or in public places. We have investigated safety topics about: medicine, road use, hygiene and around water. Currently we are learning about our rights to be safe, needs in life compared to wants, and trusted relationships. There have been great discussions happening, and lots of wonderful ideas being shared.

In our Maths lessons, we have been looking at different units of measurement. With lots of hands-on activities for exploration, the students have had a great time learning and experimenting with measurement. We have looked at length, capacity, mass, and more recently, duration. We have used various measuring tools, such as measuring tapes, scales, and different types of containers with varying capacities.

We have had such a fantastic time with our Grandbuddies from Seeds Church over the past few weeks. We have taken turns visiting each other and running activities for one another, such as colouring, bowling, a bean bag toss, board games, and much more! It has been great to see different generations connecting with one another, and there have been lots of wonderful smiles.

We have our new students from our LEAP program joining us in our classrooms over the next two Thursdays. We are so excited to welcome these students into our school and get to know them. There will be great opportunities for friendships to form and continue to develop. They will be spending the day with us in their allocated class and getting a taste of what school life is like before they begin their schooling journey in Term 3.

Year 6 First Aid Training

As part of Leaders Passport, the Year 6 students were recently trained in First Aid by St John Ambulance. Students learnt DRSABCD and practised putting someone in the recovery position, performing CPR, and administering bandages for snake bites and wounds. It was a very engaging and enjoyable session, and practical skills were learnt that they will hopefully never need to use! This activity contributed towards them earning their red badge, which is ‘Take our place in the world’. Well done Year 6s!

Year 1/2 Excursion to SA Basecamp

On the 6th of June, the Year 1/2 students went on an excursion to SA Basecamp where students had a wonderful experience using the ninja obstacle courses, bouncy castles and the warp wall. Some students made the following comments:

Samuel - I went up the warp wall 39 times out of 43 attempts. It was so much fun.

Chloe - I had lots of fun at SA Basecamp. I liked the bouncy castle.

Harvey - I loved to go inside the giant tyre.

Zara - My favourite part of the excursion was the ninja obstacle course. I liked swinging and pretending to be a monkey.

Nandini - I loved going on the bouncy castle, especially going through the big red tunnel part of it.

Jacob - I liked the inflatable course, and the wall you have to run up on.

Zoe - I liked the monkey bars.

Conor E - My favourite was the bouncy castle and the run up thing.

Sofia - I liked the bouncy castle.

Zalyah - I have been there before, and I really like the ninja course.

Premier's Reading Challenge

What is the Challenge?

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to:

  • Encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading
  • Improve literacy levels.

The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September.

The end of the Premier's Reading Challenge is less than 80 days away.

While there is still time to get your recording sheets in, if you haven’t started, please see your class teacher for a new recording sheet. The upcoming July holidays would be a great time to find somewhere warm and snuggle up with a book. Your local library, op shops or your own bookshelves are great places to find new and interesting reading material, or you could even consider borrowing books from a friend.

Thank you to all those students who have already handed in their recording sheets.

A big shout out to Ariella E who has recorded a whopping 72 books already.

If you have a child starting Foundation in Term 3, your child is also eligible for the first time to enter the Premier's Reading Challenge. See your class teacher for more details.

Happy reading,
