Principal's Report
Principal Report
Welcome back for Term 3. I hope over the holidays some families had a chance to get away to somewhere a little warmer. This term gives our students time to consolidate on the learnings from the first half of the year and continue to make the most of all the opportunities that Belmont High has to offer.
At Belmont High School we will continue be celebrate our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. Term 3 focus – Questioning
As we embark on Term 3, I am excited to share our professional learning focus for this term: the art of questioning. Recognising the importance of effective questioning in the classroom, we are committed to refining this essential teaching skill to better support our students' learning needs.
To help us achieve this goal, we have invited a guest presenter who will work with our staff throughout on our curriculum planning day in week 3. This expert will guide us in honing our questioning techniques, ensuring we are well-equipped to challenge our students at their point of need and foster a deeper understanding of the material.
We believe that by sharpening this part of our teaching toolkit, we can create more engaging and supportive learning environments for all our students.
This curriculum Day is scheduled for Tuesday 30th July.
Staffing Updates
We welcome some new staff this term:
- Heath Wallace – Heath will be replacing Thom Bell and joining the HAPE team.
- Shannon Washington – Shannon joins our science team replacing Tara Robertson.
- Bryce Fetherston – Bryce will be joining the maths and science team.
- Radikah Chopra is replacing Rosie Simon for Term 3
State Cross Country Titles
Yesterday, we had two students participate in the State Cross Country Titles held at the Yarra Valley Racecourse. Despite the extremely wet and muddy conditions, our students showed their metal with some outstanding individual performances.
Congratulations to Poppy Nivarovich who placed 3rd in the Senior Girls' event, continuing her strong form that saw her run national cross country last year. Additionally, Brandt Dyer delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 16th in the Senior Boys' event.
Indonesian Trip Return
A huge thankyou to the fantastic work of Maddie Macreadie, Hollie Woodhart, and Dave Fanning in supporting our 17 students who travelled to Indonesia in the last week of Term 2. Their efforts ensured that our students had an incredible experience, and all safely returned in the middle of the holidays. I was lucky enough to be receiving the photos as the trip went on and the whole adventure will be something the kids will never forget.
