Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition

This week, 38 students presented themselves at the University of Melbourne to recite their selected poem for the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition.

They were among the 300 students who sat in the public lecture theatre of the Old Arts Building on Monday 3 June waiting to be called to recite their poems.

Students gathered at Piazza Italia, in Lygon Street Carlton before heading off to Brunetti’s for a hot drink to warm themselves up.  From there we made our way to the university.  For a number of students, the Year 9s in particular, it was the first time walking through the iconic arches.

Over the week a of total 1700 students will have presented their poems in the hope to make it to the finals.

We are very proud of the students and the way they conducted themselves.

We now anxiously wait to hear if any of the students will go into the second round of the competition.
