Grade 1/2 Art Gallery Excursion

All 1/2 students participated in an excursion to the Ballarat Art Gallery and learnt about the endangered Bogong Moth, exploring the story it holds for First Nations Peoples. They created their own moth and took part in a moth performance that drew on Wadawurrung culture, dance and ceremony, facilitated by a Wadawurrung Elder.

Art In Term 2

Prep

In Art this term, the prep students have been learning all about colour. They have learnt about primary colours and have experimented mixing them to create secondary colours. They have also learnt about the colour wheel. They painted their own colour wheel and used it to create a colourful lion.

1/2

One of the highlights of this term for Grade 1/2s was the construction of a papier mache sculpture. The students created an armature for their sculpture out of new paper, plates, bowls and cardboard.  They then worked on adding two layers of papier mache to make their sculptures strong. The art room has been filled with ladybugs, butterflies, snails, turtles and mushroom houses. They will made an amazing display at the Art Show in Term 4 (more details to come).

3/4

The Grade 3/4 classes explored the artwork of the Aboriginal Tjanpi Desert Weavers from Central Australia. ‘Tjanpi’ is the word for the desert grass that the artists use to create 3-dimensional sculptures of native desert animals.  The students created a base for their sculptures out of paper and wire and then wrapped their animals with natural and coloured Tjanpi grass and wool.  This was a tricky project, and all students should be very proud of their efforts.

5/6

A very popular project this term for the Grade 5/6s was the construction of a magiclay dragon eye. The students looked at a variety of different images of dragon eyes and noticed the different patterns and shapes of their scales. They used a glass cabochon and magiclay to create their 3- dimensional sculptures.  Another project this term was a painting of a platypus inspired by the many styles of Aboriginal Art. The students explored symbols and imagery in Aboriginal Art and incorporated them into their own paintings to create a story.
