The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well and truly underway for another year! We have 19 students participating in this year’s challenge, and four dedicated students have already finished their 20 books. Congratulations to these students for an outstanding effort!
- Hridaya S Year 7
- Sammy G Year 8
- Sienna L Year 8
- Audrey M Year 8
Students have until Friday 23rd August to read their chosen books and update their student reading records: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/
The library has unfortunately been closed for a substantial period of time this term, but this hasn’t dampened our students’ enthusiasm for reading. Last year a record-breaking 2353 books were loaned out to students, and we’re on track to beat that with 1378 loaned so far this year.
In particular, our magazines are becoming increasingly popular! These easy to read resources cater to a variety of interests, and we subscribe to a variety of titles including:
- Gardening Australia
- Play Australia
- Good Reading
- Total Girl
- National Geographic
- National Geographic Kids
- Time Magazine
- Science Illustrated
- Cosmos
- Wheels
- Street Machine
Parents are welcome to borrow these resources, along with any of the books in our school library. You can access our library catalogue via your child’s Student Portal and make a reservation, or send a request via email and I’ll organise delivery of your requested resources.
As we reach the halfway point of 2024, I’d love to give a shout-out to our regular borrowers who are improving their vocabulary, empathy, literacy skills and general knowledge with every book they read. Our Top 15 Borrowers so far this year are:

If your child is looking for a book to read over the holidays or for the Premier’s Reading Challenge, why not encourage them to check out one of these popular resources? Parental support is a significant factor in shaping a child’s identity as a reader, and there’s so many ways you can help them develop a love of reading. Together we can help our students find success and develop these important skills!
