Support Unit

Elderslie High School made their debut and competed in the School Sport Unit Boccia Competition for the very first time. The competition was held at Minto Indoor Sports Centre on the 12th of June and three students from the Support Unit were selected to represent Elderslie High School.

Boccia is a precision ball sport, similar to Bocce, which emphasizes strategy, accuracy, and skill, as players carefully plan their throws to out manoeuvre their opponents. Boccia is not only a Paralympic sport but also a wonderful way for people of all abilities to engage in competitive and recreational play.

The students selected for the EHS Boccia team were Trinity Van Gerwen (Year 9), Lachlan Oats (Year 7) and Riley Sheridan (Year 7), who all demonstrated outstanding teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event. We are so proud to announce that Elderslie High School were awarded 5th place out of the 16 high schools who are regular contenders at this event.

Congratulations to Trinity, Lachlan and Riley for this outstanding achievement and we hope to finish as a finalist at next year's event!

Every Thursday Zara has been completing work experience at the Formal Project with determination and passion to learn. Last week she opted to stay behind the scenes in the Market sorting area. This week Zara requested to be promoted to the shop as she felt ready to go. Zara is continuing in the shop on Thursdays with her pink Volunteer lanyard, as she completes her Work Experience. Well Done Zara!

During Term 2, Macarthur class was freshly put together into a new classroom within Elderslie High School’s Support Unit. Macarthur has a new teacher – Mrs Rennex, who joined our school community in Term 2, and Macarthur class is supported by our Student Learning Support Officer (SLSO) - Mrs Kinnear.

Talofa and afio mai (hello and welcome)! I am Mrs Melissa Rennex and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I have been teaching for 10 years and come from a background of inclusive and specialised education. I have a passion for working with, teaching, and learning with students within our Support Unit.

In Term 2, Macarthur practised a wide range of learning experiences, including but not limited to: Athletics Carnival, Cross Country, First Nations Peoples and Work Education excursions, learning a Language Other Than English (LOTE) – Samoan, engaging with Macarthur’s Mindful Moments, taking part in Agriculture lessons, using clay in Visual Arts, and developing vocal singing skills in Music.

Overall, we have had an outstanding term together, I look forward to seeing what is to come for the remainder of the year - Well done Macarthur class!
