Joan McGovern

Joan McGovern first joined the NBC Challenge Committee in 2014 after 10 years as Shell’s social performance and community engagement manager.

She had just resigned from Shell so she could work full-time on her olive grove, Camilo, in Teesdale, and joining the NBC Challenge committee gave her the opportunity to help bolster fundraising for NBC’s Challenge.

Joan was acutely aware of the needs of Norlane and Corio communities, having been a member of the Bethany Community Support Inc. Board, and executive member of both Northern Futures Steering Committee and the Corio Norlane Development Advisory Board.

Joan's Shell role included focusing the company’s social investments on community need and took her into close contact with NBC and programs to support students.

Joan has been a journalist and a public relations agency owner in Tasmania, and a corporate affairs professional for 20 years in Victoria.

In 2016, after selling the grove, she and her husband, Peter, returned to Tasmania.

Joan stayed on the Challenge committee, for another 3 years but resigned for personal reasons in August 2019.

She re-joined the NBC Challenge committee in the middle of 2023 and continues to be a passionate supporter of the college and its students.
