This term, our Year 12 students have been learning about the role that food plays emotionally and socially. We have explored the importance of cultural dishes, food served at religious events, celebrations and of course those dishes that hold a special place in our hearts. The brief the students needed to follow was to create a dish that meant something to them, whether it be a dish created by a family member or a dish served at a particular time of year. It didn’t matter what the dish was they made, as long as it made an impact on them socially and emotionally.
Amir S and Meysam R created a beloved Persian herb stew called Ghormeh Sabzi. The boys said this dish “smells like home”. The flavours created in this dish combine warmth, love and contentment with a sprinkle of joy. Other students created comforting dishes like fettuccine alfredo, Korean spicy ramen noodles, lamb souvlaki and beef tacos.
Mahdiyeh M and Fatima H made a cultural dish called Mantu, minced beef cooked with onions and spices wrapped in wonton wrappers, steamed and served with Dahl and a spiced yoghurt. This was a clear favourite of the day.
Once all the dishes were created, we sat down together as a class and shared a meal together, similar to what you may do with your family and friends, having the opportunity to create such an amazing environment where everyone had the chance to share their passion and love for the dishes that means something to them. It was heartfelt, meaningful and an experience not to forget.
Thank you to all of the Year 12 Food studies students for creating such an amazing moment.

The Year 9 Product Design classes have been working hard this term to create a chopping board. They are learning the basics of woodwork while creating some beautiful and useful items. This term the students have been learning about tools and techniques as well as information about different types of wood and sustainability. They have created their own designs and are currently working on refining them.
Stay tuned for an update on what the finished products look like!

The recent addition of Lunchtime Jam concerts have now turned our school courtyard into a vibrant musical centre! Students and staff gathered each Wednesday to enjoy several live performances from our fellow students, ranging from rock classics like "Sultans of Swing" to modern hits such as "Old Town Road", just to mention a few. Everyone was given the opportunity to express themselves with any music they liked, and when done so, was gifted a movie ticket as a reward for their bravery and performance in front of the school. All of the performances were brilliant and authentic, which only added to the audience connecting further with the performers.
If you have a passion for music and want to be a part of the next Lunchtime Jam session, don't hesitate to reach out next time to perform a song of your choice, whether you're an experienced performer or beginner. See you round!
*Lunchtime Jams and Movie Vouchers organised and supplied in conjunction with Dandenong Council Youth Services and The Push.
