Years 11/12 Term 3 Holiday and Exam Study Planners
As we come to the end of Term 3, it is time for students to think about how they will engage in a proactive revision program in the lead up to the external examinations. Students can consider how to act on the advice provided by their teachers throughout the year, especially following the August examinations. What strategies can they put in place to address any gaps in their knowledge to best prepare for the end of the year?
The Term 3 Holiday and Swotvac Planner includes handy tips and tricks for making the most of their study time.
It is recommended students make a copy of the document or alternatively pick up a hardcopy available from the window outside the Senior School Office.

School References for Year 12 Students
Each year, leaving students have the opportunity to request a reference from Friends'. A reference is an important document that can be used to support residential college, scholarship and job applications.
To streamline the process and ensure all students have equal access, reference requests must be made by students via the form emailed by Kate Baldry on the Monday 2 September. Student references are completed by their tutor with input from up to three teachers who are well placed to comment. The form will be closed on Monday 29 October. Note that this process is the only way students are able to request an official school reference from Friends' school staff.
Please be in touch with Kate Baldry, Amy Harris, Adam Chambers or your child’s tutor if you would like any more information about the process.
Rotary Youth Driving Awareness Program - Year 10 Students
Friday 19 September - 9am to 2.45pm
On Friday 19 September, all Year 10 Students will take part in the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program. This is a road safety program aimed at reducing death and injury amongst young people on Australian roads. It focuses on the attitude and awareness of young people both as drivers and passengers. This one-day program at Claremont College will consist of six interactive sessions conducted by local police, driving instructors, crash survivors, drug and alcohol experts and financial counsellors. All sessions are conducted by professional speakers in their field of expertise.
Year 10 students are to wear their formal uniform and meet on the outside tennis courts of our Senior campus no later than 9.00am on this day. Students will then bus to Claremont College for the program and return to the Senior campus by 2.45pm where they will be dismissed for the day. The Senior library is available for private study for students who need to wait for other bus services or after school activities. Rotary has asked that students not be dropped off or picked up from the venue.
We encourage all Year 10 students to attend this day.
Assessment Reminder
In the lead up to the final examinations for our Year 11 and Year 12 students, we remind families of expectations around assessment practices.
Formal assessments are an important part of the Senior School experience and all dates and expectations are published on SEQTA, in advance, to support workload management. TCE and IB assessment tasks are informed by requirements of TASC and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
Students are reminded that all assessments are to be completed on the due date. This is inline with the expectations of TASC and the IBO, and supports equity and fairness for all students.
To support fairness and equity, if a student is absent for an in-class task due to an unavoidable reason, parents must contact the school in advance. The student will be provided with the opportunity to sit the task at the next available catch-up session, from 3pm - 4pm Monday or 3.45pm - 4.45pm Thursday. If a student does not attend this session, the opportunity for assessment will have passed and the student will be awarded a ‘z’ or 0. If non-attendance at the catch-up is unavoidable, for example illness or family emergency, parents must contact the school in advance.
If a student signs out without parent contact it will be assumed that the absence is unapproved and a ‘z’ or 0 will be awarded.
Ongoing assessments are to be completed in a Googledoc, shared with the class teacher. If a student does not submit the work on the due date, the draft will be assessed unless an extension has been granted.
To support your child’s learning, we remind families that appointments should be scheduled outside school hours wherever possible.
Please contact the relevant curriculum coordinator, or Kate Baldry if you require further information.
Absentees
If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Senior School Office (phone: 6210 2255, or email: seniorschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au). We appreciate your support in this process.
