Dear Families of Our Lady Star of the Sea,

St Carlo Acutis – A Modern Saint for Young People
This week we reflect on the inspiring life of Saint Carlo Acutis, a young Italian teenager who had a deep love for the Eucharist and used his talents in technology to spread the faith. Carlo had a gift for recognising God in the ordinary moments of life. He once said, “To always be close to Jesus, that’s my life plan.”
He reminds us that holiness is not distant or unreachable, but something we can live every day through prayer, kindness, and faithfulness. Carlo passed away at only 15 years old in 2006, but his legacy continues to inspire children and young people around the world. He was canonised last Sunday, and many refer to him as a “patron for the internet.”
Prayer to Saint Carlo Acutis
Saint Carlo Acutis, you were a shining example of how to use our talents for God’s glory. Help us to stay close to Jesus, to love the Eucharist, and to live with kindness and joy. Inspire us to grow in holiness each day, just as you did. Pray for us and for our families. Amen.
The Importance of Reading with Your Child
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a love of reading. Research shows that children who read, or are read to, for just 20 minutes a day are exposed to nearly 1.8 million words a year (Nagy & Herman, 1987). This exposure to language not only strengthens vocabulary but also builds comprehension, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

The Australian Institute of Family Studies highlights that reading aloud with your child improves literacy outcomes, strengthens the parent-child bond, and fosters a lifelong love of learning. Even older children benefit from reading with a parent, as it sparks discussion, builds critical thinking, and develops empathy through stories.
Setting aside 20 minutes a day – whether at bedtime, after school, or over the weekend – is a small investment that has a powerful lifelong impact. Together, we can nurture strong readers who are also thoughtful, faith-filled learners.
God Bless,
Mrs Maria Rose
