School Board

School Board Meeting Summary - 21 August

The August Board meeting highlighted several exciting developments at our school. Acting Principal Angie Thomas reported on the fantastic range of activities that have taken place this term, including our meaningful NAIDOC Week celebrations with smoking ceremony and cultural excursions, a valuable visit from the U.S. Consul General, and student participation in Youth Parliament 2025. Our performing arts program continues to shine with successful productions of Monologue Magic and Into the Woods JR, while academic programs like Write a Book in a Day and the Year 8 Visual Arts Immersion have provided excellent extension opportunities for our students.

Infrastructure and planning remain a key focus as we continue to grow. Discussion and planning continue, and the Department of Education has confirmed that our Schedule of Accommodation will now be based on a student population of 2,500 rather than the previously proposed 2,100 – a significant step forward for our long-term planning. We're expecting to receive preliminary building proposals in early September. We are also seeking to host the Minister later in the year to discuss further.

We received an energetic presentation from Ngaire Lowry and Lauren Pascoe on the SailLAB Science Extension program, as an example of a STEM focus within the school.  We heard how the science extension students are learning about the science of wind, currents, mechanics, and design, with practical and hands-on problem solving – all related to sailing. From the photos and stories we heard, it is an experience the students will always remember.

Our Student Council representatives shared updates on their various year group activities, including social events, fundraising initiatives, uniform proposals, and upcoming elections. There is also the much-anticipated House Athletics Carnival, expecting 75% student participation.

The Board also discussed the establishment of new school awards to recognise excellence in teaching, innovation, leadership, and service among our staff, which will be launched in the coming weeks.
