Principal's Thoughts

Sweeter than the drippings of honeycomb …
In considering how to write this one today, I wasn't quite sure where to start. In the past fortnight we've have been blessed to be able to celebrate students who have made it through to the Combined Independent Schools State Athletics competition, had students participate in and win a variety of performances at the local Eisteddfod, had our Year 9 & 10 Tournament of the Minds team win the Regional Championship and busily ready themselves for the State Championships this weekend.
I also lead multiple visitors through our school, including a visit from the CEO of the Association of Independent Schools NSW, and got to celebrate the day-to-day activities that our students get to enjoy; the safe learning spaces, their wonderful friends (including the ups and downs of these relationships!), the wonderfully caring staff that seek to know our kids and provide them with awesome learning opportunities focused on helping our kids grow and learn in the basics, and link it to identity and hope.
We are blessed. However, unfortunately, the week also brought other things, it brought moments of significant grief both globally and locally. Specifically, please pray for our friends in Tamworth at Carinya Christian School who have lost a young student in a car accident.
But. This is life isn’t it. Hard things don’t stop. And, we can’t stop doing them so we can enjoy the other hard things. But how…
I was reminded this morning of a section from Psalm 19:
The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
This is why we continue to embed our experiences in God’s truth. When our students have God’s ways as their foundation, when our families understand His story and truth and when we live as journeying, not-always-so-perfect examples of it, then we all get to enjoy the sweetness that life has to offer amidst its more difficult and disagreeable moments.
So, this fortnight ahead, I pray you can take the time to dwell on God’s story, His law, testimony, precepts and commandments that bring the restoration, wisdom, rejoicing, and enlightening, to life that is more desirable than gold and sweeter than the drippings of honeycomb.
Good tidings,
Jonno
