Assistant Principals' Report

Hello everyone and welcome to our newsletter article,
Education Support Tips for Parents/ Carers
Supporting your child's education at home can make a big difference in their learning and confidence. Here are some practical things you can do to help reinforce what’s happening at school:
Create a Routine
- Set regular times for homework and reading.
- Ensure your child has a quiet, well-lit workspace free from distractions.
Stay Involved
- Talk to your child about what they learned each day.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings and communicate with teachers when needed.
Encourage Reading
- Read together daily or encourage independent reading.
- Visit the library regularly and explore different types of books.
Practice Skills
- Help with homework, but don’t do it for them—encourage independence.
- Use educational games and apps related to school subjects.
- Practice math facts, spelling, or vocabulary with fun activities.
Make Learning Relevant
- Connect school lessons to real-life situations (e.g., measuring ingredients in cooking for math).
- Discuss current events or topics related to what they’re learning.
Promote a Growth Mindset
- Praise effort, not just results.
- Encourage your child to see mistakes as learning opportunities.
Encourage Questions
- Foster curiosity by discussing what your child wonders about.
- Help them find answers through research or experiments.
Limit Screen Time
- Balance educational screen time with physical activity and offline learning.
Support Social and Emotional Learning
- Talk about feelings and experiences related to school.
- Teach problem-solving and conflict resolution

Helping out at school
This year we have had a number of parents/ carers and grandparents help out with reading and literacy particularly in the Foundation level during the school week. Your time and help in the mornings makes a huge difference in supporting our young learners. Whether you can commit to once a week or just once a month, every bit of support is appreciated! Please look for the timetable on your child's classroom door and sign up to help out.
Have a great holiday and look forward to seeing you next term.
