Signs of Spring
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”— Ecclesiastes 3:1
It is now spring, and even though the mornings and nights have still been quite chilly, we’re starting to notice the change.
We are getting a little bit more sunlight each day. The trees are starting to bud, and flowers are beginning to bloom. Everything feels a bit lighter and fresher, like the earth is slowly waking up.
Spring has a way of lifting our eyes and giving us a little more energy, a little more hope. It reminds us that seasons change—and so do we.
In the book of Ecclesiastes, we read, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” It is a simple but powerful truth. Life moves in rhythms and seasons—some are slow and quiet, others are busy or exciting, and some can be challenging.
But spring reminds us that no season lasts forever. Even if we’ve been feeling tired, stuck, or weighed down, there’s always a new season ahead. There’s time for rest and time for renewal. Time to let go and time to grow.
Lutherans believe that God meets us in every season, not just the sunny ones. God is always working, even quietly, to bring us forward into something new. Just like the earth is warming and the trees are blooming, God can bring growth to our hearts, our minds, and our lives—even when we don’t see it right away.
What kind of “season” are you in right now—busy, slow, uncertain, exciting?
What are some signs of growth or change you’re noticing—in nature or in yourself?
How can you welcome the new season with openness and hope?
Thank you, Lord for the rhythm of life and the gift of spring. Thank You for the way creation reminds us that change is possible, that growth is coming, and that each season has its purpose. Help us notice the beauty around us and be open to the new things You are doing in us. In your name we pray, Amen.
