Principal's Message

It has been a genuine pleasure to begin my journey as the Principal of Wembley Primary School. I would like to sincerely thank our students, staff and families for the warm welcome I have received over the past two weeks. It has been wonderful getting to know our community, spending time in classrooms, meeting students and beginning conversations with families.

One thing has already become very clear to me, Wembley is a school with a proud history, dedicated staff, wonderful students and a community that genuinely cares about providing the very best opportunities for every child. I feel incredibly privileged to be joining you and look forward to building on these strong foundations together.

As a leader, I believe every decision we make should be centred on improving outcomes for students. High-performing schools are never standing still. They continually reflect on what is working well, what could be strengthened and how they can continue to improve. Education is constantly evolving and, as our understanding of how children learn grows, we have a responsibility to learn, adapt and improve. I strongly believe that when we know better, we do better.

It is hard to believe that the first two weeks of term have already passed. Thank you to our school community for your understanding and support during the recent stop work action. I would also like to advise families that, due to the current industrial action bans, ongoing reporting through Markbook will be temporarily paused. Please be assured this does not change our commitment to communicating with families. If you have any questions about your child's learning or wellbeing, I encourage you to contact your child's classroom teacher. Likewise, teachers will continue to communicate with families whenever required.

One of the highlights of the fortnight was our Junior School Mini Athletics carnival. It was wonderful to see every child enthusiastically participating, demonstrating our school values and enjoying the activities. Thank you to our PE teachers Ben Landolina and Laura Keays and all the  Prep - Year 2 staff for organising such a fantastic event, our Year 6 students for their leadership and support, and the families who joined us on the day. We have also had our Year one and Year 2 students attending swimming lessons this week.

I have also enjoyed visiting classrooms and meeting many of our students. I have been incredibly impressed by their manners and enthusiasm for learning.

This Friday, 31 July, staff will participate in a Curriculum Day focused on strengthening our practice and continuing our improvement journey. Staff will build their knowledge around how students learn best, review current evidence-informed practices, and continue developing consistent approaches to School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports and Positive Classroom Management Strategies. This work will help ensure every classroom is calm, predictable and focused on maximising learning for every student.

In the first Week of the term all our facilitators and Learning specialists attended the McRel training for four days. This professional learning looked at the strengths and skills needed to lead teams and play a crucial role in leading change as highly effective leaders. Following on from that, last Friday, our Executive Leadership Team attended the inaugural Wyndham Education Network Conference hosted at Tarneit Rise Primary School. We were fortunate to hear from leading educational experts including Pamela Snow, Reid Smith, Jeanette Breen and the Think Forward team. The conference provided valuable insights into evidence-informed teaching practices, and we look forward to sharing these learnings with staff over the coming weeks.

Finally, I am pleased to share our recent NAPLAN results with our school community. We are incredibly proud of our students and staff. In many areas, Wembley students achieved results above the average of schools within our network, which is a wonderful achievement.

At the same time, we know there is always room to improve. While there is much to celebrate, we will also be curious about areas where growth has slowed, particularly between Years 3 and 5, and where similar schools have achieved stronger results. This is what great schools do—they celebrate success while continually seeking ways to improve outcomes for every student.

Congratulations to all of our students on their achievements. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts, and I thank our staff and families for the important role they continue to play in supporting every child's success.
