HSC Examination Readiness

Term 3 is an important time in the academic calendar, in particular for our Year 12 students as they prepare for their Trial HSC examinations and the final stages of their secondary education. This term, a focus of ours is on HSC Examination Readiness and how this continues to support students in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to approach their examinations successfully.

As part of our HSC Examination Readiness work, Year 12 will be participating in a dedicated year group morning PAC revision session every Monday and Friday. These structured sessions will provide regular opportunities for students to consolidate their learning, practice examination techniques and strengthen effective study habits. Activities focus on areas such as responding to HSC-style questions, understanding key terminology, planning extended responses, managing examination time and using feedback to improve.

These sessions also encourage students to take greater ownership of their preparation by identifying their strengths, prioritising areas for improvement and establishing realistic revision goals. Working in partnership, students will be able to develop a more consistent and purposeful approach to revision. We encourage families to support Year 12 students by discussing their study plans, celebrating their progress and helping them maintain a healthy balance between study, rest and wellbeing.

As part of this work, students have developed personalised study schedules to help them manage their time effectively in the lead up to the Trial HSC examinations. They considered their weekly commitments, subject priorities, individual strengths and areas requiring further revision. Students were encouraged to create realistic and achievable schedules that include focused study sessions, regular breaks, physical activity, sleep and time to relax. The examples pictured below, demonstrate some of the work undertaken by our Year 12 as they develop routines that are both productive and sustainable.

Stage 5 WIN Project

Our commitment to improving student learning also continues through the Stager 5 WIN Project. WIN (What I Need) uses a range of internal and external assessment data to identify student’s learning needs and provide targeted support. Through flexible grouping, differentiated instruction and an emphasis on Literacy development, students are supported to build the skills they need to experience success across their subjects.

Throughout Term 3, staff will continue to monitor student progress, review learning data and refine teaching strategies within the WIN classes. This collaborative and responsive approach ensures that teaching remains focused on the needs of our students while also building their confidence, engagement and capacity as learners.

Together, the HSC Examination Readiness work and Stage 5 WIN Project reflect our ongoing commitment to providing purposeful, evidence-informed learning opportunities. By developing strong learning habits in Stage 5 and targeted examination skills in Stage 6, we are supporting students not only to achieve academically but also to become increasingly independent, resilient and confident learners.
