Special Announcement - Tony Farley (Executive Director of SCS to visit St MM’s)

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Sydney Catholic Schools Executive Director Mr Tony Farley will be visiting St Margaret Mary’s for our end of year Amadeus concert on Friday November 10 at 9.10am. As you may be aware, it was Mr Farley’s dream for each child within the system to learn to play an instrument so we extended the invitation to him to see the wonderful musical progress the St MM’s students have made in their Amadeus lessons. What is special about our community is our school spirit so I wish to extend the invitation to all of you to be able to join us on the morning to show Mr Farley the wonderful community we are.

Change - friend or foe?

This fortnight I have been reflecting upon the changes that will be upon us in no time. This week we have the Year 6 Transition to High School evening and next week we welcome our 2024 Kindergarten students for Orientation as they begin their schooling journey.

Change is an inevitable part of life, and one of the first significant changes your child will experience is the transition to primary school. This exciting milestone can also be a bit overwhelming, both for your child and for you as parents. To help you and your child navigate this transition successfully, we have some valuable tips and insights to share.

1. Build Anticipation:

Starting primary school can be a big step, and it's essential to build anticipation and excitement around this new adventure. Talk to your child about the exciting things they will learn, new friends they will make, and the fun experiences awaiting them.

2. Familiarise with the School:

Before the school year begins, consider visiting the school with your child. This will help them become familiar with the environment, meet their teacher, and see their new classroom. It can ease any anxiety and make the first day more comfortable.

3. Establish a Routine:

Create a daily routine that your child can follow, including regular bedtimes and mealtimes. This structure provides a sense of security and helps children adjust to the new school schedule.

4. Encourage Independence:

As your child grows, encourage them to take on more responsibilities. Simple tasks like packing their school bag or choosing their outfit for the day can empower them and build their confidence.

5. Communicate Openly:

Keep the lines of communication open with your child. Encourage them to share their feelings and experiences at school. Celebrate their successes and reassure them during challenging times.

6. Socialize:

If your child has a beloved stuffed animal or blanket, allow them to bring it to school during the initial period. These comfort objects can provide a sense of security.

Celebrate small victories, such as successfully tying their shoelaces or making a new friend. These celebrations can boost your child's self-esteem and motivation.

10. Be Patient:
