Rising Sports Star Lara Bussell: A Week of Remarkable Achievements

The College would like to shine the spotlight on talented Year 10 student and rising sports star Lara Bussell.

As mentioned in the last edition of The College Courier, Lara recently achieved ACC Letters, the highest individual accolade awarded by the Associated and Catholic Colleges organisation, following her outstanding achievements in Athletics.

But her sporting achievements extend far beyond this accolade. In addition to receiving ACC Letters, in just one week during the second last week of Term 3 Lara dominated many different events. Her miracle week of sporting achievements included the following:

It's clear that Lara has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of sport. Her dedication, versatility and consistent outstanding performances have cemented her legacy among the College’s sporting legends. We eagerly anticipate her future accomplishments and the inspiration she will undoubtedly continue to provide to our College community.

Katie Biddulph Takes the Leap for Charity at Central Park Plunge

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible bravery and compassion of our 2024 College Captain Katie Biddulph, who recently abseiled 130 metres down the Central Park Tower as a participant in The Central Park Plunge

The Central Park Plunge is a charitable fundraising event aimed at supporting various charities in WA. Over the last seven years the event has raised a staggering $3,868,000! This year Katie added to that figure by raising an impressive $5,188 for Anglicare WA, and securing a place as the fifth-highest individual fundraiser overall.

Even more impressive is that Katie was the youngest participant there and to add a unique twist to the experience, she teamed up with the oldest participant, Don who is 85 years young.

Katie's enthusiasm and dedication did not go unnoticed, as she was interviewed by ABC radio and represented the College exceptionally well.

Over the past two years Katie has raised a total of over $15,000 for Anglicare, establishing herself as an inspiring example of the positive impact our students can have on their community. Well done, Katie!

The recording of Katie’s ABC interview can be found HERE. The relevant times are:

  • 18:40–22:00
  • 1:06:50–1:08:55

Cousins' Annual Telethon Fundraiser

The College proudly commends ASC students and cousins Chloé Covic (Year 5), Sophie Brown (Year 8) and Lucy Brown (Year 4), who recently ran a lemonade stand and hamper raffle at a local farmers market to raise funds for Telethon in support of medical research into childhood diseases, supplying essential equipment, providing critical services and creating life-changing opportunities for underprivileged and vulnerable children.

The girls impressively managed to raise a total of $3,667. It is wonderful to see our students making a positive difference in the world, embodying the College values of empathy and respect in their day-to-day lives.

ASC Students Excel at Western Australian Junior Maths Olympiad

On Tuesday 17 and Saturday 21 October, 20 ASC students across Years 7–9 travelled to The University of Western Australia for the Western Australian Junior Maths Olympiad (WAJMO). There was a total of 472 competitors across 114 teams of highly talented Years 7–9 mathematicians from across the state.

The students’ selection to attend this event is testament to their dedicated efforts, and a strong indicator of their promising future in the field of mathematics.

We are pleased to share that Year 8 student Gianni Mirco finished 8th in his age group and 26th overall, while Year 9 student Adam Nelson finished 13th in his age group and 21st overall. Adam’s team, consisting of Year 9 students Leah Wu, Tejas Morisetty and Jamie Kim, had the 7th highest team score overall.

These results highlight the exceptional talent, dedication and hard work of these young mathematicians. Congratulations to all students who participated in the WAMJO!
