Bird Life – The Secret Lives of Our Urban Birds
Our Year 4C classroom was buzzing with excitement on Friday 20 October, as we welcomed Dr Ann Jones and the ABC film crew for an exploration of all things birds. The students had a fun-filled afternoon of bird discovery. Dr Jones made her way into the 4C classroom, introducing herself and sparking a discussion about the bird count results from 2022. Students were then divided into three groups, each equipped with binoculars, before setting off on a rotation through the College grounds to spot various bird species.
Our Year 4C students represented the College proudly, and demonstrated understanding and flexibility when working with the film crew. Together they participated in the Great Aussie Bird Count, an important citizen science initiative. The students and Dr Ann collated their findings, revealing that the introduced Rainbow Lorikeets were most prevalent, providing crucial data to be shared with BirdLife Australia. Dr Ann and her team were thoroughly impressed by the depth of knowledge demonstrated by the students.
Dr Ann's work has played a significant role in Year 4C’s inquiry-based learning, teaching the students skills such as note taking and summarising information through her shows and podcasts. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with her, and eagerly await the production of this episode, which may potentially air towards the end of the year.

Year 6 Excursion – RAAFA Visit
On 13 and 17 October Year 6S walked to RAAFA, a nearby residential aged care facility, to connect with residents by going for a walk and talk together.
Despite the hot weather the experience was amazing, and we recommend it to others. We engaged with residents, and it was interesting to hear their stories and perspectives. It is always interesting to gain advice and listen to stories from our elders. Everyone enjoyed the walk around the lake, taking in the beautiful grounds and wildlife accompanied with a nice chat. After a hot walk around the RAAFA grounds, we were happy to sit in a nice cool room and reflect on another successful excursion.
On 24 October we welcomed residents to All Saints', where we hosted a morning tea and bingo session. It was so much fun!

Final Play in the Common
On Wednesday 18 October, our Year 6 students took part in their final Play in The Common event for the year. This series of events aims to assist our Year 6 students in transitioning to Senior School next year. It not only familiarises them with their new surroundings, but most importantly allows them to establish connections with Senior School students.
As the new school year approaches, our Year 6 students are feeling excited about making their transition into Senior School.
Their curiosity about life in Senior School was met with answers and insights generously shared by Senior School students. The students also had conversations about the Year 12s, who were heading into their final school day and Valedictory Dinner. This wonderful event gave our Year 6 students an opportunity to gain valuable advice whilst enjoying games in the sun.
